Every single plastic toothbrush, since production first began in the 1930’s, still exists in a landfill or ocean today (that’s over 4.7 billion brushes!) Shocked? So was the Kumar family, founders of Brush with Bamboo. They decided to take matters into their own hands and create a toothbrush that composts in nature, instead of polluting it!
Their signature toothbrush, made from sustainably grown 100% Certified Organic Wild Moso bamboo, features plant-based bio-bristles from Castor Bean oil and compostable packaging derived from vegetable cellophane. The brush handle is commercially compostable, as is their bamboo straws. Plus all their products are vegan, cruelty-free, BPA-free, and without toxins. How could it get better than that?
The days of your toothbrushes living longer than you do are in the past. With Brush with Bamboo, you are saying no to plastic pollution and yes to sustainable solutions! Together, we can keep our teeth clean and the environment even cleaner by switching over to eco-friendly alternatives like Brush with Bamboo.

I made this switch early on in my efforts to be less wasteful. It’s super easy to transition. The actual bristles are a little soft for adults and they need to be removed from the handle prior to composting. Otherwise the brush is great. I’ve been using the bamboo brush and toothpaste tablets for almost two years with no cavities!

Overall a great alternative and worth the switch from plastic toothbrushes. The bristles are really soft which is why I took a star away, I wish it was a little tougher. The bamboo does taste like a popsicle stick.

I think I will stick with these! After first switching from my regular plastic toothbrush, my first impressions were that the head was larger (but at least not uncomfortable for me), the bristles are on the soft side, and it does take a moment to get used to the taste of the bamboo (kind of like having a popsicle stick in your mouth). However, I think adjusting to those differences will be easy so I’ll stick with these over trying the other options on Earth Hero. I prefer that the bristles on this brush are bio-based rather than regular nylon.

I bought this toothbrush before from a local store, but I couldn’t purchase from them again during the lockdown. I’m so glad Earth Hero carries this brand! I think the price is pretty affordable. It took a short while to get used to. The bristles aren’t too hard or soft for me. I did leave out one star because I find it too bulky for me, so I’m thinking that I just might try the kids size. I do recommend this toothbrush to my friends and family, and I will continue purchasing.

I like these, but the brush head is a bit bulky compared to other bamboo toothbrushes. The bristles are also a bit stiff. Otherwise, the brush is fine and I do like it overall.

Just purchased this toothbrush for the second time! I do love that the bristles are soft and durable – the bristles have lasted much longer than a “regular” toothbrush! And the handle is smooth and comfortable.
Question – does anyone have any tips on how to remove the bristles? I have tried to pull them out but they don’t seem to want to come out lol

EarthHero –
Hi! Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. We remove the bristles on those brushes with some pliers (I use a pair of needle nosed pliers). Once you get through the first couple of bristle “bunches”, it becomes a lot easier! I hope that helps 🙂

I love how eco-friendly this toothbrush is, and I’ve definitely used my share of bamboo toothbrushes in the past. The one thing I wish Brush with Bamboo had was different bristle hardness. I think these are too soft for my liking.

The bristles are nice and soft, easy to brush gums. Two things to consider: the head is a bit too wide (for me) and can be a bit tricky to reach the back teeth. And if you’re sharing with others you’ll need to use a sharpie to number or name the brushes so as to not confuse them.

These are soft bristles, and for that reason, I don’t love them. They work, but I would like the option of a more rigid bristle as I never really feel like I’ve gotten the best clean with a soft bristle toothbrush. Other than that, they are pretty good.

I needed to finally replace some old toothbrushes and found out about bamboo products and stumbled upon these. The bristles are softer than I expected and the only thing I’m not used to is that wood feeling, and how wide the head is, but other than that the product is working great for me and my loved ones. I just have to get used to the feeling.

This was my first time switching to an alternative to plastic toothbrushes. I’m content with this brush! It feels a little weird when my tongue touches the wood texture, but it’s nothing I can’t get over. I actually found that these bristles clean my teeth and gum lines better than the toothbrush my dentist gives me.

I love how sturdy this toothbrush is. It was the first bamboo brush I tried out and I’m planning to keep using it. I personally feel like I get a better grip with this one compared to my old plastic one. My family became so interested in mine that I’m getting them each one to try out for Christmas. Hands down one of the best first sustainable swaps out there!

I’ve tried a couple brands of bamboo brushes, and this is by far the best. It’s sturdy, comfortable to hold, the bristles really clean everything, and it’s plastic free! What more could you want? Now I will say that the bristles are probably more medium than soft, but this one cleans my teeth 100x better than my previous “soft” bamboo brush. I definitely recommend, so glad I got the 2 pack.

I love these toothbrushes and so does my partner, they are a nice in-between of soft and hard bristles. I will say that after a few brushes they start to leave a weird stained residue in our tooth brush holder. but I haven’t encountered any mold yet.

I like this product just ok. I personally love soft bristle brush because I have sensitive teeth and gum and soft bristle helps prevent receding gum line. Another thing that I don’t like about this product is that you have to keep it super dry. In a wet environment like the bathroom, the wood body of the toothbrush can start to smell of wet wood. I have to now place it outside the bathroom where there is air flow to dry it out everyday.

I love how sturdy and smooth the handle is, and the nice curve of the bristles. My only complaint is that the head is a bit too big for my smaller mouth, so I end up making a mess because I can’t close my lips while brushing 😂

My boyfriend was just looking to replace his toothbrush and the CHEAPEST plastic toothbrush was almost $5. At $5 each these brushes are competitively priced. The wooden handle feels great and there are lots of (soft, nice feeling but still well-cleaning) bristles, honestly more bristles than a normal plastic toothbrush which I think helps me get a better clean. Definitely recommend.

I’ve been using bamboo toothbrushes for a couple years now. Plastic toothbrushes are unnecessary. These toothbrushes do the job and the bristles aren’t too rough on the gums. This is such a simple swap in daily life to feel better about my impact on the environment. Definitely recommend.

I’ve gone through several of these and I will never go back to using a plastic toothbrush. These are extremely well made, I only wish they had different bristle stiffness options because I love this brand so much I’m hesitant to try another. The bristles are soft, which is most recommended to reduce receding gums but it just takes me extra long to brush and get my teeth super clean. Not gonna complain though for such a good product, even comes with minimal packaging of a cardboard box!

These are my first bamboo tooth brushes and while everything else about them is perfect they leave the sides of my mouth with small cuts or very sore due to the bamboo material. Granted I’ve never used any toothbrush apart from plastic ones so my mouth might not be used to them yet. Hopefully this goes away with consistent use! Other than that these brushes are great.

Question
Emma –
Has anyone experienced small cuts at the corners of their mouths when using these brushes? I had this happen to me while using a different brand and am hesitant to give it another try but very eager to find an eco-friendly alternative to plastic brushes.

EarthHero –
Hi, Emma! This is a real concern- some bamboo toothbrushes are harsher and more ‘woody’ than others! A gal in our office has used these and has reported no mouth pain from the brushes- in fact, the opposite, because of how good she feels using this compostable and plastic-free brush! 😀

emma.woolley318 (verified owner) –
Absolutely love this bamboo toothbrush! I’ve been using it for 3 months now and it’s still in perfect condition. The bristles will bend just like a typical plastic toothbrush, but none of them have come out of the brush. Handle grip might feel a bit uncomfortable at first but your hand just needs to adjust to the bamboo. Would 100% recommend!!

Hi Amanda! We’re so happy that you’re loving this toothbrush! It’s one of our favorites, too. You may be interested to know that the bristles are actually 62% Castor Bean Oil and 38% Nylon. Not perfect, but currently the closest to fully biodegradable there is at the moment. At the end of life, you can pull the bristles out of the brush and compost the bamboo handle. 🙂
