Our Story

Where we started

While living abroad, our CEO, Ryan Lewis, became increasingly aware of the adverse effects of hyper consumerism on the natural environment — landscapes seemingly transformed into seas of plastic. Wanting to make an impactful change in the way we consume, Ryan imagined a marketplace that championed responsible consumerism by only offering sustainable goods. In 2017, EarthHero opened its virtual doors with just a few hundred products to offer sustainable choices for every type of consumer, making sustainable shopping approachable and easy for everyone.

Where we are

Today, we offer thousands of sustainable products assessed by our 5-Pillar Sourcing Methodology, and share hundreds of articles on sustainability education. We too are constantly learning about how to live more sustainably, and we will share everything we discover with you, whether that is a new composting tip or new reusable product. Our goal is to both help change the way we consume and change the way companies conduct business. That is why we are proud to be a Certified B Corp, a 1% for the Planet member, and a Climate Neutral company — to raise the expectation of company accountability to our communities and natural environment.

Where we're going

We started EarthHero with the ultimate goal of helping to build a more sustainable world by allowing consumers to vote for (and love) sustainable products. While this approach is an area we can comfortably grow into, we’re not interested in being comfortable, we’re interested in being better. Moving forward, we aim to increase our environmental and sustainability educational content, use our platform to lift marginalized voices, spotlight and learn from traditional knowledge experts, and publicly support environmental causes and legislation. Sustainability should not be accessible only to those with resources, but about making resources available to all.
