BioBag
BioBag has one mission — to keep organic waste from ever entering a landfill.
Unlike some large petroleum-based plastic bag companies that are now dabbling in compostable bags, BioBag is a small company of dedicated employees who have been solely producing certified compostable bags since 2002. The founder of BioBag, Dave Williams, and his business partner, Terry Phillips, knew decades ago that certified compostable bags and films would be a necessary part of solving food waste issues in a changing world, and set out to create a truly plant-based and compostable product to save our landfills.
Over the last 16 years, the BioBag name has become synonymous with high-quality, certified compostable bags with consumers and businesses alike. They work with local community governments to establish food waste composting programs, and educate their consumers on the benefits of keeping food waste and other organics from entering our landfills. And that's just part of the reason that more consumers use BioBags than all their competitors‚ combined.

Keeping Organics Out of the Landfill
Did you know the EPA estimates that more than 30% of landfill bound waste is organic material? Once this gets to the landfill, the food and paper scraps will create methane gas, a greenhouse gas 30x more harmful than carbon dioxide. By encouraging the composting of organic materials, and offering a selection of commercially compostable trash bags and reusable snack bags to make it even easier for businesses and households, BioBag is determined to keep everything organic out of the landfill.
Their compostable bags are different because, unlike plastic baggies made from non-renewable oil, BioBags are made from Mater-Bi, a plant-based bioplastic that's truly unique. Mater-Bi is from an innovative family of bioplastics that uses substances obtained from plants, such as corn starch, and biodegradable and compostable polymers from renewable materials. The use of renewable raw materials, instead of those derived from fossil fuels, helps control greenhouse gases like methane, that can occur in landfills. The plant-based resin that goes into BioBag products is sourced from Italy, as there is no compostable resin supplier in North America that can guarantee a resin made from GMO-Free crops. That resin is then blown into compostable bags and films at the BioBag production facility in California.
But BioBag doesn't just make amazing compost friendly products–they're educating the world on the power of composting! BioBag has been a proud and active member of the US Composting Council (USCC) for decades. They support the USCC's mission of advancing composting manufacturing, utilization, and organics recycling to help change the state of food waste in America. They proudly believe that composting is not just a fad–but a way of life we need to celebrate.
