About the Company

Brush with Bamboo

Every single plastic toothbrush, since production first began in the 1930’s, still exists in a landfill or ocean today (that’s over 4.7 billion brushes!) Shocked? So was the Kumar family, founders of Brush with Bamboo. They decided to take matters into their own hands and create a toothbrush that composts in nature, instead of polluting it!

Their signature toothbrush, made from sustainably grown 100% Certified Organic Wild Moso bamboo, features plant-based bio-bristles from Castor Bean oil and compostable packaging derived from vegetable cellophane. The brush handle is commercially compostable, as is their bamboo straws. Plus all their products are vegan, cruelty-free, BPA-free, and without toxins. How could it get better than that?

The days of your toothbrushes living longer than you do are in the past. With Brush with Bamboo, you are saying no to plastic pollution and yes to sustainable solutions! Together, we can keep our teeth clean and the environment even cleaner by switching over to eco-friendly alternatives like Brush with Bamboo.

We’ve been using this as our dish sponge and for cleaning counter tops and even for cleaning fruits and root crops. when we’re ready to replace it, we just toss it in our compost bin and it’s fully composted in a month.

Bought these to replace my plastic loofah and I’m glad I did. They are a bit more abrasive than the plastic ones but it does the job. They do smell like wet cereal – kind of weird but have read from other reviewers that it does go away.

I was a little skeptical but really determined to not buy another plastic scrubby. This is a little more rough but I’m already used to it and feeling much better about being able to compost this when I’m done using it.

    Better than expected

    polina.abramson (verified owner)

So far am I liking these sponges even more than I initially expected. I’ve only ever used conventional sponges before so this was a bit of a switch. I cut the sponge in half to prolong its life and the half is plenty for me to use for cleaning my dishes. It lathers up very nicely and does a good job cleaning my dishes. They also dry very quickly, which I’m hoping means that it will take longer/be harder for bacteria to grow on it. I’m hoping that these will last much, much longer than conventional sponges because $20 is a pretty high price for sponges in my opinion. I will definitely continue using these types of sponges in the future but I may look for a cheaper version.

  7. Question

    Polina

I’m used to cutting my regular plastic sponges in half to make them last longer. Is it possible to cut these in half for the same purpose?

They expand to a round tube but are soft and squish down to whatever cleaning shape you need. Nice scrubbing surface but also gentle enough.

    LOVE

    melody.wunrow (verified owner)

Absolutely love these. I got them to replace sponges because all the sponges I could find had some sort of plastic in them; but these are all natural fibers.
These are way better than sponges. They scrub well, hold soap and water well, but they also dry out in between uses so that they don’t mildew, grow bacteria, and become stinky like sponges do!
    Will definitely keep using them!

I’ve been trying to find an alternative to plastic loofahs for ages. I never really felt comfortable with natural sponges because of the risk that they’re wild and my purchase is doing more harm than good. But I feel a lot better knowing these ones specifically are farmed. They don’t hold onto soap as well as the plastic loofahs I’ve used, but that’s okay for me.

First time ever using a loofah. It is a bit exfoliating. Don’t think I’ll use it everyday. But a couple times a week for sure. Gives a nice lather that wash cloths don’t seem to hold. Can’t wait to throw it in the yard!

Hi Jessica! Upon coming into contact with water, these loofahs will puff up a bit. However, they will stay fairly flat and are great as replacements for standard sponges!

I have been using this loofah for about 2-3 weeks now and it works great! I did notice a bit of a smell when I first grabbed one but it was completely gone within a few days. It is not too rough nor too soft.

  18. Question

    Jess (verified owner)

My loofah had some black/brown oval ‘things’ on the inside of it when I first expanded with water. I have no idea what it is and it is hard to remove from the loofah. What is this?

      EarthHero

Hi Jess! These loofah scrubbers are 100% natural, Mayan loofahs grown using traditional, chemical-free methods in Guatemala. The brown spots are part of the natural loofah and are not dangerous- they’ll still scrub and exfoliate perfectly! You can reach out to hello@earthhero.com if you have any further questions 🙂

    Does its job.

    xkittnx13 (verified owner)

First time using a loofah. It does its job as a gentle scrubbie. I use it for my cast iron skillet, scrubbing food off of plates, and I use it to clean my bathroom as well. I’m big on lather, depending on what soap you use it can lather really well. I’ve read reviews about a smell and straight out of the package I didn’t notice a smell. I recommend it as an alternative/replacement to the Scott’s green scrubbies.

I like them from the start. Not to rough on the skin and they out preform everything else I have had. Don’t think I’ll be changing brands anytime soon.

I absolutely love this product! I never liked using wash cloths because I never felt clean after using them and regular loofas are just so wasteful and hard to recycle. My best friend started growing these and she let me take one home to use… unfortunately, my dog got ahold of it before I could use it. So I bought a new one here! And probably the best bathroom buy I have every done

Smelly at first. Kept using and now just has the sent of our soap we use. Works well. They expand and soften (I was a bit worried at first). They work with cleaning and washing yourself. Will not being buying a plastic loofah ever again

    Smells bad

    rebecca.chait (verified owner)

I was very excited to try these sponges, but now that I have, I would not purchase them again. While they are easy to use, expand and soften considerably with water, and scrub well, unfortunately they smell very badly. My fiance lovingly told me it smells like very very old people. I’m not sure how I will end up using these sponges because of the smell. I will likely use them with baking soda paste to clean the showers and sinks and stuff like that.

Hey Rebecca — so sorry to hear that these aren’t smelling great! If using them for cleaning (bathroom or kitchen), we recommend composting after 3-5 weeks. We’d love to know more though, so our Customer Care Team will be reaching out soon. 🙂
