Paraben Free
Parabens are synthetic chemical preservatives, commonly used in beauty products like shampoo, lotion, and deodorants. Parabens can accumulate in your body, and have been linked to hormonal disruption and reproductive problems. In studies of breast cancer patients, parabens have been found in the tissue of cancerous tumors–yikes! If you want to avoid Parabens in your beauty products, keep an eye out for methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben, and ethylparaben in the ingredients list.
Phthalate Free
Phthalates are found in toys, electronics, personal care products, plastic wraps, containers, and more. These petroleum based chemicals help soften plastics, and bind fragrances to perfumes, deodorants, creams, and other personal care products. Phthalates are are not chemically bound, meaning they can easily get released into the air, water, or your body, just by using the products as intended. Phthalates have been found to disrupt the endocrine system, which can cause reproductive damage, hormonal imbalances, infertility, mood changes, metabolism changes, and more.
Sulfate Free
Sulfates are synthetic chemical ingredients commonly used in beauty products and household cleaners, like shampoos and dish soaps. You can usually identify sulfates in an ingredients list by looking out for the most common types: Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLC) and Sodium Laureth Sulfates (SLES). These chemicals, often derived from petroleum, are used to help form the “lather” we’re used to seeing in our beauty and cleaning products. When used in the shower or sink, these chemicals can flow through the pipes and into our waterways. Synthetic sulfates have been linked to allergic reactions, eye and skin irritation, and hair loss, and some studies suggest they contain carcinogenic ingredients.

Smells amazing, moisturizes my hair and leaves it so soft without looking oily. Suds up so easily and the shape makes it so easy to use. I rub the bar on the top of my head, then flip my hair up and rub it at the nape of my neck, and lather up!

I’ve tried other shampoo bars that foam better. This one doesn’t feel like it cleans my hair.

This and the lush bar shampoos are the only ones I can get to work with my hair. It’s moisturizing for my long hair, doesn’t leave a residue, and is pretty easy to lather. The shape does make it really hard to travel with because it doesn’t work with most containers.

My hair feels much healthier using this product. Other zero waste shampoos have dried out my hair but this leaves my hair feeling silky, soft, and clean. Lathering the bar takes getting used to but just add water!

What does it smell like?

Hi Maria! All HiBARS have a gentle, citrus aroma. We love how refreshing it is!

This is my first venture into shampoo bars and while I love the light scent and easy use, it leaves my curly hair flat. Normally I have plenty of volume and noticed a change almost as soon as I started using it. I’ll try a different one when I use this one up.

Doesn’t leave my hair easy to brush like my old, normal shampoos did, but does leave it clean

At first my husband and I loved it! Left hair squeaky clean, but after a a while it left our hair feeling dirty. Not sure if they changed formula between the bars we got, but the second bar was when we noticed it happening. Used conventional shampoo a few times and then went back and it kept happening, so we don’t use it anymore.

I have 2a blonde hair and have hard water at my apartment. I tried a bunch of different shampoo bars but they left so much build up- even after apple cider vinegar rinses. The water was just too hard to rinse out the more oil-based bars. I thought I would have to give up on shampoo bars. Luckily, I tried the Hi-Bar and I have not had any problems with build-up since.

This is by far the best shampoo bar there is, it leaves my hair feeling just as clean as regular shampoo and it’s a longer lasting clean so I actually have to shampoo less often than with regular shampoo. Highly recommend!

I have been using your shampoo for a couple months now. My hair is so soft! But I have eczema and I believe the fragrance and essential oils in this have been making it worse… I really love this product so if there is ever a fragrance free/essential oil free version I will quickly buy it up!!

I think when I first started using this it didn’t feel as squeaky clean but at least it never left a waxy residue like other shampoo bars. Now when I use it it feels like any other shampoo, clean and light and not overly drying. I do occasionally use Head n Shoulders about once a week but overall HiBar feels like my next shampoo staple; I’ve tried two other bar shampoos and both left me with a waxy residue that got all over my hair brush, this has not!

I have thin, fine, greasy hair (I know what a combo) and I personally find that this shampoo leaves a sort of residue behind. Although it leaves my hair moisturized it does not feel as if I am actually cleaning. I still prefer the lush shampoo bars over this one because I really like that squeaky clean feeling more. Still glad I tried it though.

Hi Tracey! We’re so sorry that this bar isn’t working as you had hoped it would. It sounds like your hair might like the Volumize or Maintain bar better! These have ingredients to get your scalp squeaky clean while not overly moisturized 🙂

I’ve been using this for 6 months and it’s still going strong. I’ve tried a number of different shampoo bars, and this one is a favorite. Doesn’t leave my hair oily/greasy, lathers well and rinses out clean. It smells good, but the scent is not overpowering.

This was just not for me. Cleaned my hair just fine. But despite it being a moisturizing shampoo bar, I feel like it dried my hair out. Not as bad as some other shampoo bars that I’ve tried in the past. But my previous shampoo bar from a different brand worked a lot better for me. So it’s probably time for me to stop testing brands and just stick with what I already know works for me.

I’ve tried LOTS of shampoo bars and HiBAR is by far the best I’ve found. This particular bar leaves my hair soft and shiny, without feeling waxy. It rinses clean and adds just enough moisturizing so that my hair isn’t dry and damaged. The conditioner bar is the bomb as well! I’ll never go back to soap in plastic bottles!

I was really excited to try this product but after using it for a month, I am kind of disappointed. The smell of this product is great and it DOES leave your hair soft but it doesn’t really cleanse my scalp very well. I also noticed that once the bar is nearly gone (is pretty flat), it really doesn’t lather too well so it’s more like using co-washing my hair instead of using an actual shampoo. I think this product is great for someone else, just not me. I’m glad I tried it though.

I like the shape and it does a good job of cleaning my hair. I did notice that I was going through the shampoo bar twice as fast as the conditioner bar, because it takes longer for me to feel like the shampoo is working and lathering.

I have super dry, super curly hair and a lot of it. This leaves my hair so soft and it’s great reducing my plastic consumption. I’ve now purchased two bars and am never going back.

Caution, this shampoo bar made me so happy I’m constantly walking around my house whipping my hair around so my boyfriend and dog can see how soft and shiny my hair is. I think they might kick me out of the house. Also, this has become such a problem that I need to buy a helmet to wear inside so I don’t hit my head on the walls and door frames. Make sure you and your family are prepared before you buy this bar. It will make you so happy and make everyone else hate you because you scream “MY HAIR IS SO BEAUTIFUL!” every time you see your reflection in a pond, window, or mirror.
Seriously though, I would give this bar 10 stars if I could. I’ve tried other shampoo bars in the past and they made my hair feel waxy and greasy even after a few months of use. This one immediately worked so well and my hair feels naturally silky smooth and looks so shiny. I’m obviously very happy with this purchase and can’t recommend it enough! Thank you!!

How does this brand do when exposed to different temperatures? I want to take it traveling.

EarthHero –
Hi there! We love HiBAR for many reasons and ease while traveling is one of them. You can always pack your HiBAR in a hard, protective case like this one, or pat the bar dry before packing, wrap in a towel, and pack amongst your clothes! While this bar will stay solid, if you’re worried about potential messes, we like to store traveling HiBARS in these bags for peace of mind 🙂 The most important thing is to ensure they are fully dry each time they’re packed!

We’ve bought this a couple times now. My husband and I were skeptical on bars at first, but this is awesome. We like it for sure with the conditioner afterwards. We both dont use as much conditioner so about 2 shampoo bars to 1 conditioner bar is what we’ve been realizing. If you’re just switching over to bars and hesitant dont be! I recommend this one!

Question
torihuddleston –
How well does it work for curly hair? Does it dry it out or stretch the curls?
(0) (0) Watch Unwatch
EarthHero –
Hi, Tori! Great question! HiBAR actually suggests the Volumize shampoo and conditioner bars for curly and wavy hair because of the rice protein and Vitamin B5 ingredients that are known to add definition to waves and curls! 🙂

So I have heard the HiBar was hard to lather with and I have experienced that when I used it. So if you are someone who likes a luscious lather this may not be the right shampoo for you, BUT after working it into my scalp and letting the suds rinse out of my hair , my hair was left really clean. So I have hard water where I live and I have also heard some people experience a squicky clean feeling, but I did not experience that in my experience and that might be because I don’t have soft water.
There is a light citrus scent from the bar and the scent doesn’t stay in your hair after it dries, but it mostly smells like soap.

Hello! We’re so pumped you’re liking the HiBar. We’re all big fans here in the EH office. 🙂 One tip that you might find useful is to lather the shampoo bar in your hands instead of applying it directly to your hair. With a few drops of water, it should begin to suds up quite nicely!

Question
Dom –
How long does this bar last? I have never used a shampoo bar so I am curious if anyone has an idea for the equivalence of use this would have to a liquid dispenser.
(0) (0) Watch Unwatch
EarthHero –
Hi Dom! These shampoo bars and their conditioner counterparts should last you about as long as a typical bottle of liquid product, about 4 months. This definitely depends on how often you wash your hair and how much hair you have! Also, allowing the bar to dry between uses will help extend its life. 🙂

I know that the description says it’s fine for color treated hair. Does this include semi-permanent vibrant hair colors? (They tend to be very sensitive to typical shampoo ingredients)

EarthHero –
Hello! This shampoo bar won’t strip color or highlights, but if you’re concerned about very bright colors potentially fading, we would recommend seeking out a shampoo specifically formulated for that. Thanks for asking!

Cleansing but still very moisturizing! I have textured hair so I was struggling to find a shampoo bar that didnt dry out my hair and this one is perfect. I also love how the bar come to a point so i can really scrub my scalp.
