Eco-Friendly Black Owned Brands

At EarthHero, we’re focused on more than just finding you eco-friendly products that make the cut with our sustainability experts. We’re also passionate about finding eco-friendly products made by brands who are just as devoted as we are to making sustainable choices simple for everyone.

Our brands are led by change-makers from all over the world, so many of which are creating space for the underrepresented and the marginalized – and we love sharing their stories with you.

As we work towards global environmental equality and justice, it is important to address the racial history of the movement – and make space for Black owned businesses leading the way towards a healthier and more just future. Voting with our dollar is one of the most important ways we can make a change. These amazing Black-owned brands are going the extra mile to create products that make a difference in sustainability. See their stories below!

Rooted Woman

Founded with the purpose of inspiring women to value self-care and personal wellbeing, Rooted Woman is a Black owned and woman owned nail polish company that does things a little differently. Founder India Williams wanted to help overworked women like herself reimagine self care as a necessity – and look at self care through the lens of overall health and self confidence.

Their products are hand poured in the USA in small batches, and are made without the 10 toxic chemicals that are commonly found in nail polish: Toluene, Dibutyl, Phthalate (DBP), Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, Camphor, Xylene, Ethyl Tosylamide, Acetone, and Parabens. Everything they create is made without animal testing or cruelty, and is vegan as well. Plus, any mica in their products is ethically sourced with a child labor free supplier.

Finally, they want to empower Black women, and provide opportunities to them, at every step. Rooted Woman distributes their polishes to us through Everlasting Love Fulfillment, which is the only Black woman owned fulfillment center in the country! Ethical, intentional, and radical, Rooted Woman is changing the way we take care of ourselves, and the products we use to do so.

Organic Bath Co.

Eco-friendly black owned brands EarthHero

The story of Organic Bath Co. began when co-founder Gianne had a reaction to one of her favorite beauty products – and with some research, discovered that the personal care industry is wildly unregulated in the USA. This, coupled with the knowledge that women, and especially Women of Color, are often targeted with toxic personal care products, led partners Gianne and Jay to found Organic Bath Co.!

Black-Owned and woman-owned, Organic Bath Co. utilizes ethically sourced, organic, and fair trade ingredients for their bath and body essentials. The packaging is thoughtfully designed, with minimal plastic and fully recyclable materials. Their formulas are paraben free, phthalate free, sulfate free, non-toxic, and designed with your skin and wellbeing in mind. From their best selling body butters, to their cold pressed soaps, all Organic Bath Co. products are handmade with care at their Massachusetts home base. Their mission is to be clean, not complicated!

Baxter Wood

Founded in 2018 by Kweku Larbi and Sarah Smith, Baxter Wood was created after the co-founders visited Kweku’s hometown in Ghana, and were astounded by the amount of plastic waste there was. Their love of fashion, and desire to make an impact, came together to found Baxter Wood!

Wanting to do things differently, Baxter Wood utilizes natural rubber – not synthetic rubber made from non-renewable petroleum. They source their materials from FSC Certified plantations in Sri Lanka that ensure habitat and community protections. For any used Baxter Wood boots that can no longer be worn, they repurpose the natural rubber boots into playground turf, athletic punching bags, and roads.

Plus, Baxter Wood is dedicated to giving back to communities and education programs in Ghana. 10% of company profits support sustainability focused education initiatives in Ghana, raising a generation of eco-warriors.

CooperRose

After the birth of her first child, CooperRose founder Derrin Moore dove into the world of natural parenting – and discovered that the Black community was mostly unaware of the possibilities within the realm of eco-friendly parenting. Wanting to share the knowledge that she had learned, CooperRose was born to make reusable diapering easy, accessible, and made for modern families.

Everything is designed to be washed and reused countless times, and to be soft and comfortable on even the most sensitive skin. By providing an alternative to single-use plastic diapers, they are helping reduce the amount of waste sent to our landfills.

This Black owned, woman owned, mother owned company doesn’t just make reusable diapers – they also advocate and provide resources for parents across the nation. By enriching local communities and educating parents, CooperRose is making a difference in the lives of families that will last a lifetime.
