About the Company

TerraCycle

What is truly zero waste? Most of us recycle what we can–but what about everything else that can’t go into your curbside collection bin?

TerraCycle uses their free collections programs and their unique Zero Waste Boxes to recycle, upcycle, or reuse hard-to-recycle waste from communities across the country–instead of sending it to the incinerator or landfill. By treating trash as a material with true value, TerraCycle is changing our global waste system from a linear one to a more circular one–where things are designed to last for years, then be remade into awesome new products (not sent to the landfill!)

To get started, first pick the type of “trash” in your life you want to tackle. From cigarette butts to candy wrappers and even cleaning supplies, choose where you think the most non-recyclable waste in your life is coming from. Next, pick your size box. Do you live alone, or are you part of a family of 5? Once you get the ideal box for your life, simply start collecting the accepted waste to send back to TerraCycle!

Live the zero waste life of your dreams, without giving up what you love, thanks to TerraCycle.

Hi Christine! While there isn’t a box specifically made for this, the All-in-One will most likely accept items you’re using in your classroom. Feel free to reach out to support@earthhero.com for specific questions about what can be recycled through TerraCycle. 🙂

No need to apologize – we love questions! TerraCycle thinks of everything so naturally, they have a box just for plastic cards. We don’t currently have it on EarthHero, but you can find it on their site right here!

Hi Travis — you choose and pay for each box individually and as you may need them. Some people like to have a All-in-One box on hand to help with daily waste, while others may purchase a specific box for events like cleaning out the garage!

  7. Lisa Rosenthal

    Question

    Lisa Rosenthal

Hi, I purchased the small size zero waste box. Can I put little plastic items in it, such as the plastic bottle caps that go on my returnable milk bottles? How about small metal items, such as keys?

      EarthHero

Hi Lisa! You can certainly put small plastic items, such as bottle caps, into this box. As long as the small metal items aren’t sharp, they should be just fine going into the box as well 🙂

      Ellie Mersereau

Hi Marisol! This box allows you to recycle almost every type of waste. Terracycle does make a box specifically designed for recycling footwear, but we don’t have it on our site just yet! If you’re looking to recycle many pairs of shoes, that box would most likely be your best bet. 🙂

4 out of 5 Putting money where it matters.

    Megan

I love that this product/service exists.
Is it expensive? Yes. But to think about what the pricetag covers: shipping two ways, the box itself, the staff to both coordinate sales and sorting then the actual recycling- they prob priced each box as low as possible to cover costs and make a profit.
We bought as soon as we moved into a new home- first the ‘ everything’ small box then the medium.
You can really stuff items down, then tape it shut.
We terracycle the packaging that the box arrives in itself so that is a bummer that the shipping packaging takes up your first bit of space in the box. So, all in all great service and is an investment of your ethics.
1.5 months w moving waste and furniture wrapping and have used one small and still filling our medium box.

    Vanessa Butler

My town recently stopped taking glass in their recycling pick up. Can glass be included in the all-in-one zero waste box?

    • EarthHero

      EarthHero

Hey Vanessa – we’re bummed that your town recently stopped taking glass to be recycled! Unfortunately, the All-in-One box does not accept broken glass – and we assume that glass would break during the return shipment to their recycling facility. However, we recommend contacting your local recycling facility and seeing if they have any recommendations for other ways to recycle glass.
