BPI Certified Compostable
This product contains material that has been third-party certified to meet ASTM Standards D6400 (for Compostable Plastics) or ASTM D6868 (for Compostable Packaging). These products break down in industrial composting facilities, and turn into usable soil. Appropriate facilities may not exist in your area.
Compostable
This product contains material that can break down into soil in either a backyard or industrial composting system. These products are declared compostable by the manufacturer, but may not third-party certified. Contact your local waste-hauler or composting facility to determine where these materials may be accepted. Certain materials may be better fit for industrial facilities than backyard composting systems. Industrial facilities may not exist in your area.
Sustainable Lifestyle
This product helps promote a more sustainable lifestyle. Whether it encourages re-use and the movement away from disposable products, or it promotes sustainable actions like recycling and composting, this product can help you lower your environmental footprint.
No GMO
This product is made without the use of Genetically Modified Organisms. The process of using GMO’s involves manipulating the DNA of plants, animals, and other organisms to produce benefits such as an ability to tolerate herbicides or produce their own pesticides. GMO’s have been deemed as unsafe by many developed nations.
Plant Based Resin
Plant Based Resins are used as an alternative to fully-synthetic plastics. Instead of using Petroleum as the main base ingredient to form plastic, some companies have started replacing a portion of the ingredients with plant and vegetable extracts. This lowers the amount of resources extracted to create purely synthetic products, and often provides a use for agricultural byproducts such as corn or flax. Some plant based resins are made from 100% plant materials, and can be composted in industrial facilities. EarthHero recommends checking with your local compost facility to determine which items are safe to compost.
Snacking on the go? Ditch the trashy single-use plastic bag and make the switch to a compostable and reusable alternative! BioBag's Resealable Sandwich Bags are made from a breathable plant based resin sourced in Italy and manufactured in the USA from GMO free crops. Perfect for sandwiches and snacks, both the bag and the resealable zipper are certified compostable by the Biodegradable Products Institute, and meet the US Standard ASTM D6400 for commercial compostability. I didn’t realize they come in different sizes. In any case other than one tear once they’ve worked perfectly!

Great product. I use them for those times I really need a sealable zip bag and can’t use one of my reusable silicone ones. I love that these are municipally compostable, but not so compostable that they fall apart holding my bell pepper slices or carrots for a couple weeks. (the same brand makes a home-compostable version for home composting bins and trash bags, which I also adore.) I am ecstatic that I no longer buy ziplocks, or worry about hand washing those ziplocks until they fall apart to get the most out the plastic. The zip seal is just as solid as any brand on the market, with no leaks, and they seem less prone to splitting at the seams. I’ve had one in the freezer for a few months now and it’s held up well, although I haven’t really tested the viability of the food. However, since I mostly use solid containers for freezer storage this isn’t a major priority for me. I wish everyone who can’t afford silicone zip bags would at least replace their ziplocks with these, or that ziplock would make all their bags out of whatever is used to make them. And if you can buy the trash can liners from BioBags or World Centric, you can cut a source of single use plastic out of your life (but don’t put anything wet or biodegradable in those versions unless you’re taking it out of the house soon, they really are back yard compostable.) I hope BioBag becomes a household name.

Is this a cruelty-free product?

EarthHero –
Hi there! These bags are cruelty-free. They’re made of Made from Mater-Bi, a family of bioplastics derived from the starches of plants, vegetable oils, and compostable polymers!

We used these for our sandwich bags while skiing. While everyone was a little skeptical, they actually held up well in our pockets all day! We were able to compost them at the Steamboat resort. We did not try reusing them, so I am not sure how they would last with multiple uses. They were a nice alternative to ziplocks for a big group on a weekend ski trip!

Question
Cass –
Can these be used as freezer storage?
(0) (0) Watch Unwatch
EarthHero –
Hi, Cass! Great question- while not intended to be freezer bags, these resealable bags will work for short term storage (~2 weeks). Compostable bags are not as air-tight or as thick as polybags. If you’re looking for long-term storage or to completely avoid freezer burn, check out these options by Stasher!

Question
Sarah Hancock –
What if you don’t have access to a municipal composting facility?

EarthHero –
Hi, Sarah! Great question- these bags will not work the way they were intended if you do not have municipal composting near you because the specific environment needed to compost the bag itself is not present in a landfill. These bags will release methane just like other decomposing items! Even though these will not compost if used in a landfill, we still like to think of them as a better option than plastic because they are not relying on any petroleum products to be made 🙂

I really like these bags. They are yet another great option than traditional, harmful plastic. They hold up well and can hold various foods without ripping but don’t put too much weight in it. You get a good amount of bags for the price. Recommend these highly!

I freakin’ LOVE these bags! I work hard to bring my own bags to the grocer, use the cloth bags for produce, and drink from refillable bottles. These bags eliminate any guilty feelings about what to do with snacks on the go, left-overs, and separating bulk produce.
