Ballpoint pens are a school and office essential — but what about the waste that classic plastic pens create? Onyx and Green is tackling our waste problem by making their Ballpoint Pens from natural and renewable bamboo, with a rubber grip for the most comfortable writing experience. This two-pack of Bamboo Ballpoint Pens features black ink and a 1mm tip made from plant-based corn plastic.
Bamboo
As a member of the grass family, bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants on earth. It requires no irrigation, pesticides or fertilizers to grow, and can be harvested within 3-5 years, as compared to approximately 30+ years for traditional hardwoods. Bamboo is extremely adaptable and produces more oxygen per acre than large tree species, while using a fraction of the water to grow. Its durable and lightweight qualities make bamboo a great alternative for hard wood products!

Recycled Plastic
Recycling is the process of taking an otherwise-discarded item or material and cleaning, sorting, and breaking it down into its basic form (such as fibers or pellets). This material is then used to produce new items. Recycling keeps useful materials from being discarded in landfills, prevents resource extraction due to the creation of new materials, and provides a new life for used items. Recycling can utilize both pre-consumer waste (materials left over from production) or post-consumer materials (used clothing, empty water bottles, etc). Recycled plastic utilizes salvaged post-industrial plastic scraps and post-consumer products such as water bottles and other plastic containers, and transforms them into new products. The containers are sorted, crushed, and then heated to form resins, which are liquid plastics that can harden into new shapes. These resins can be molded and used to create anything from carpet to outdoor furniture. Recycling plastic lowers the amount of petroleum extracted and the production of greenhouse gasses associated with first-time plastic production. Plus, by using these existing materials, we're benefiting from the original energy and resources spent to create them in the first place, while diverting waste from the landfill.

New pens won't write

Although the pens arrived promptly, they did not work at all. They wrote for about 5 letters, and then the pen would not write--something wrong with the ink inside.

Hey There Janine! Im so sorry to hear this! It sounds like you received defective pens! Please reach out to [email protected]!

Very disappointing

It seems a good concept to use a pen that avoids plastic, but unfortunately they both ran out of ink within an hour's use and with not much writing. Very disappointing.

Hi Michele, we're so sorry to hear that these ballpoint pens did not work as well as you'd hoped! We haven't gotten this feedback before on these pens, and it seems your pack may have been defective. Our care team will be in touch shortly to assist!

Love This Pen!!!

It writes so smoothly. Better than any ballpoint pen I've used before. I just wish it was refillable. But it's at least a lower waste alternative to all plastic pens.

Smooth writing

Love the bamboo and the comfortable thickness of the barrel. If they were refillable it would be 5 stars. Thanks for this option!
