Paraben Free
Parabens are synthetic chemical preservatives, commonly used in beauty products like shampoo, lotion, and deodorants. Parabens can accumulate in your body, and have been linked to hormonal disruption and reproductive problems. In studies of breast cancer patients, parabens have been found in the tissue of cancerous tumors. If you want to avoid Parabens in your beauty products, keep an eye out for methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben, and ethylparaben in the ingredients list.

Phthalate Free
Phthalates are found in toys, electronics, personal care products, plastic wraps, containers, and more. These petroleum based chemicals help soften plastics, and bind fragrances to perfumes, deodorants, creams, and other personal care products. Phthalates are are not chemically bound, meaning they can easily get released into the air, water, or your body, just by using the products as intended. Phthalates have been found to disrupt the endocrine system, which can cause reproductive damage, hormonal imbalances, infertility, mood changes, metabolism changes, and more.

Plastic Free
No petroleum-based plastics are used in this product or its packaging. Plastic can be difficult to properly recycle, may never biodegrade, and is known to leech toxic chemicals into our bodies and environment. Single-use plastics also require extracting and processing of finite resources, so seeking out biodegradable, infinitely recyclable, or durable products and packaging is recommended whenever possible.

Recycled Packaging
This product is packaged or shipped in materials that contain recycled content.

Sulfate Free
Sulfates are synthetic chemical ingredients commonly used in beauty products and household cleaners, like shampoos and dish soaps. You can usually identify sulfates in an ingredients list by looking out for the most common types: Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLC) and Sodium Laureth Sulfates (SLES). These chemicals, often derived from petroleum, are used to help form the “lather” we’re used to seeing in our beauty and cleaning products. When used in the shower or sink, these chemicals can flow through the pipes and into our waterways. Synthetic sulfates have been linked to allergic reactions, eye and skin irritation, and hair loss, and some studies suggest they contain carcinogenic ingredients.

Women Owned
This brand is owned by a majority of women. This includes everything from a small one-woman shop to a larger company where more than 51% of women make up the ownership team.

Good for medium/short hair, fine for long hair, bad for greasy and dandruff hair

A 3 for me and a 5 for my husband, which averages out to a 4.

The shampoo bar definitely can sud up and clean hair. Switching from a liquid shampoo to a solid shampoo wasn’t too difficult either. That being said, it was a lot easier for my husband with short hair to get consistent use out of it. I have long hair, and I have to double wash + section hair off but by bit to rub the shampoo bar into the scalp (otherwise it only touches the strands). The biggest problem for me is that I have dandruff and oily hair, and a double wash with this shampoo bar allowed me to go 2 days without another wash, whereas using Head and Shoulders allowed me to go 3-4 days.

Best shampoo bars yet!

Love this shampoo. I used this bar all winter to fight my dry scalp. It's wonderful. When I visit my parents in the South (or the heavy humidity of summer) it is a bit too heavy for my hair, and weighs down my curls/waves, so I switch to the maintain. Still a fantastic product that I love to use whenever!

Functional, not super effective for dandruff

My dandruff was better managed than if I used NO dandruff products. I see in the description, it says for "dandruff relief", not to clear it up. This product is not a "solution" to dandruff in my experience. If you're new to shampoo bars, this one isn't for you- the lather wasn't great. Nonetheless, this bar was just fine. It still left me feeling clean.
