Threads 4 Thought

Responsibly Made with Sustainable Fabrics

Who They Are

Threads 4 Thoughts is an OG when it comes to sustainable and ethical apparel. Founded in 2006 by husband and wife duo Leigh and Eric Fleet, the pair were brought together by their love for sustainability and a joint vision to change the world. During their senior year of college, the team launched T4T with a collection of graphic tees made from eco-friendly materials, like organic cotton and recycled polyester, that featured bold graphics and sayings like ‘May Peace Prevail on Earth’. After a rockin launch with support from celebs like Jamie Foxx and Gavin Rossdale, the brand took off and so did their impact! Today, T4T offers a full line of lifestyle apparel including dresses, shorts, hats, and athletic wear, all made from materials that are leaving a positive impact on the planet and people involved.

Why We Like Them

From start to finish, T4T’s supply chain is a step above the rest when it comes to ethical and socially sustainable production. Each one of their products is carefully designed and manufactured to leave a smaller impact on the planet compared to traditional clothing, support their producer communities, and set new standards for what ethical production means for the fashion industry. Starting with the materials, T4T only uses organic cotton, recycled polyester, and Lenzing Modal. We love the fact that all of these inputs are either natural or recycled, meaning they have less of a carbon footprint and are diverting material from landfills to extend the life of the fiber. Next up, the factories. Each production facility that T4T partners with is independently certified to ensure worker safety and conditions ranks above average and local fair trade wages are contracted to each employee. Not only are the people taken care of in T4T production, so is the planet. They manufacture in Haiti and Kenya, where the entire factory is carbon neutral, and their factory in Weihai, China has one of the highest ranking water filtration systems in China, meaning that dyes used in production do not end up polluting waterways and 82% of the water is recycled back into the cities flow.

Threads 4 Thought also values philanthropy. One of their longest partnerships is with the International Rescue Committee (IRC). The IRC helps those whose lives are shattered by conflict or crisis, who need assistance surviving, recovering and regaining control of their life after the tragic events. The IRC has been around for 85 years! Continuously changing the course of people’s lives during a humanitarian crisis. Threads 4 Thought has been helping organizations and nonprofits such as IRC for the entirety of their business, showing their mutual care for the environment and the safety and support of humankind.

Tencel® is the Lenzing AG company’s patented form of lyocell; a material that utilizes sustainable tree farming and minimal waste processing. This certified fabric is made from the pulp of eucalyptus trees, which require little water and no pesticides or fertilizers to grow quickly. The pulp is processed using a non-toxic solution, and 99% of the solution is recovered and reused to process more materials. Tencel has a naturally white color, so no bleach or chlorine is required before the dying process.

This product is made by a family-owned business. EarthHero loves to support and empower businesses built around strong family values.

Some or all of the energy used to make this product is produced via renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, or hydropower.

We support safe and fair labor practices when producing sustainable products. This company cares for their workers by fostering a safe work environment and providing their employees with fair wage.

Organic cotton production uses zero chemical pesticides and fertilizers, promoting a healthier use of land and decreasing harmful agricultural runoff. By steering clear of toxic chemicals, workers experience less exposure to hazardous conditions, promoting social responsibility as well as environmental stewardship. Plus, farming methods for organic cotton have been shown to use up to 20% less water than nonorganic production methods. Choosing organic cotton eliminates the use of insecticides and other harmful chemicals, promotes efficient resource use, and results in a safer products and a cleaner planet!

Recycled PET utilizes salvaged post-industrial PET scraps and post-consumer products such as water bottles and other plastic containers. These plastics are dried, crushed, and spun into yarn in order to create recycled PET fabric, or polyester. By providing a use for recycled plastics, companies encourage recycling programs worldwide, while adding new value to discarded items. Currently, over half of virgin PET production goes towards making textiles, so by utilizing recycled PET, post-consumer materials are both diverting waste while taking the place of raw materials. This helps to reduce the demand for the extraction of oil, as well as energy used to produce new synthetic fibers.
