Maderacraft

Handcrafted, Sustainably Harvested

Who They Are

In 2013, a Canadian couple and their 4-year old daughter set out to design something with one simple goal: take the time to make something unique with true attention to detail in every step. True to this promise, they dedicated months to brainstorming materials, spending every hour outside of their full-time jobs on their new project–Maderacraft.

Several years later, Maderacraft has become purveyors of all things made from various types of exotic wood, all harvested from FSC Certified forests that are responsibly managed to support reforestation. From their sustainably harvested bamboo, to their beautiful walnut wood, Maderacraft wood is imported from tried and tested forests in Thailand, India, and the United States. From there, the wood gets hand carved and hand sanded into the beautiful, functional products that you can expect from the Maderacraft family.

Although they’ve gotten some positive attention as of late, Maderacraft stays true to their sustainable business practices and handmadeness in every step of the process. They work closely with their wood growers, and their customers, to make sure every product brings style, function, and a touch of eco-friendly flair to any desk setup!

Why We Like Them

Say hello to a wood carving company that’s dedicated to leaving forests better than they found them.

By using strictly FSC Certified wood imported from exotic forests in Thailand, India, and the United States, Maderacraft is changing the way we look at natural wood products. But what does FSC Certified really mean? It means that all of the wood used to create Maderacraft products falls under the 10 principles and criteria of the Forest Stewardship Certification. But what should this mean to you? It means that Maderacraft products are made with the respect of indigenous people in mind, by forest workers who are treated well and respected, all while protecting the diversity of forest biomes and resources.

Maderacraft provides modern, natural alternatives to traditional “junk” office accessories. By choosing to use biodegradable wood instead of chemical laden plastics, Maderacraft helps consumers take a stand with their choices. Each case, stand, or charging station is not only made from natural materials, but also helps plant a new tree to replace the one used for your new item!

Inspired by the ability to make a difference, rather than profit, the Maderacraft family has grown from small roots to become a forest of positive impact. Designed for tomorrow’s generation, their iPhone cases, laptop cases, and desk top accessories add a touch of classic style to our everyday essentials–handcrafted with tomorrow’s generation in mind.

We support small businesses and craftspeople who create each of their products with care. Handmade products are generally produced on a small scale, without the use of large energy consuming factories and production facilities. Buying handmade helps support art, communities, and people’s livelihoods.

The company that makes this product has a program to plant trees in proportion with their sales. Planting trees helps to combat deforestation, reduce atmospheric CO2, and preserve the health of ecosystems across the globe.

This product contains wood that has been sourced from sustainably managed forests. These forests are typically managed in ways that prevent overharvesting and promote the wellbeing of local ecosystems, animals, workers, and communities.

Products with the Forest Stewardship Council certification are made from or with wood sourced from FSC managed forests. FSC standards ensure the respect and wellbeing of indegneous peoples, forest workers, and local communities. Harvesting in certified forests maintains the ecological functions of each habitat. FSC prohibits the use of pesticides, GMOs, and the conversion of forests to plantations. As a third party, not-for-profit agency, FSC provides nonbiased audits of forest management.

As a member of the grass family, bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants on earth. It requires no irrigation, pesticides or fertilizers to grow, and can be harvested within 3-5 years, as compared to approximately 30+ years for traditional hardwoods. Bamboo is extremely adaptable and produces more oxygen per acre than large tree species, while using a fraction of the water to grow. Its durable and lightweight qualities make bamboo a great alternative for hard wood products!
