Compostable
This product contains material that can break down into soil in either a backyard or industrial composting system. These products are declared compostable by the manufacturer, but may not third-party certified. Contact your local waste-hauler or composting facility to determine where these materials may be accepted. Certain materials may be better fit for industrial facilities than backyard composting systems. Industrial facilities may not exist in your area.

Customers reported concerns with this eco-friendly compost bin's durability and ease of maintenance. The handle attachment failed after six months of use due to short screws. Shoppers found the bin difficult to clean, with materials sticking easily and the lid's inner sleeves being hard to maintain. Price point did not match performance expectations.

I really wanted to like this…

I really wanted to like this. I gave it about 6 months. The only reason it didn’t get 1 star is because it DOES keep any smells out. But that’s the only thing it keeps out. Every time I’d open the lid, I’d have to hold my breath because fruit flies can and will get inside. The inner bag is a good feature, easy to clean, and the bin itself is cute. But I can’t get over the fruit fly issue. And for the price point, I genuinely think most folks would be better off with a sealed, but vented lid. The gallon bin under my sink that I leave slightly popped open honestly works so much better. If you are in a colder climate, or can better protect this product in a cupboard or something, it might be worthwhile. But I definitely couldn’t keep this thing out in the open and use it regularly.

Good but…

Love the look of this bin and the fact that its made from plant based material but functional design is not that great. The screws loosen when you lift handle up and down. I realized this after I lost them in my outdoor compost bin after dumbing food waste. Couldn’t find replacement screw that fits at hardware store so contacted zerowaste customer service. They were very responsive and said that I would be receiving replacement screws from company that developed the bin. Unfortunately the screws came in a plastic shipping package, so that was really disappointing:(

Love this bin!

I always had food scraps in a bowl by the sink but now I can use this bin with a lid and not have to take it out every night. It doesn’t stink either. Highly recommend!

Loved it

Great size for a counter top bin. It goes with the kitchen colors which is an extra pro for me. Very easy to clean and good quality material. Super recomended

Beautiful compost bin for kitchen countertop

Love the color and size of this compost bin! It blends well with kitchen decor and so far has done well to keep smells locked in.

I wanted to love this but it self-destructed!

This compost bin is lovely and unobtrusive. It worked for about a year and then the other day, I heard this large cracking sound from the kitchen: The compost bin just fell apart! I live alone, compost very few things and had been away for three months, so the bin got very little use. It's a huge bummer for a compost bin that is not inexpensive. I think they need to back to the drawing board with this one.

FLIMSY HANDLE

I really wanted to love this compost bin but after using it for over half a year now, I wished I had not bought this. The screws for the handles are super short, so they fell off at the 6 month mark (and I don't even carry the bin that much). It's a major design flaw. Just short hopes and dreams pinning the handle to the bin. It's also super hard to clean the bin. Materials stick to it easily. The lid also is super hard to clean. It's meant to hold a piece of coconut fiber (or something, I just stuff it with paper to be cheap...at this point, I'm realizing there's no point to having holes in the first place), so there's inner sleeves at the edges....super annoying to clean out. I really wanted to love this product since it's eco-friendly, but it really makes composting a pain and I actually hate using it. Wish I bought a stainless steel round bin instead. This product is just proof that expensive isn't always better. Don't be fooled by the nice colors either like I was.

Looks great on the kitchen counter!

Its awesome. Perfect for the counter. Looks great/sleek. Doesn’t take up much space. The odor mesh seems to work- hard to tell because it gets emptied quickly and we use compostible bags.

Our old one always stunk and got slimey. Not had that issue here. Would be nice if there was an extra large size too. But, this works perfectly for me.

Not great

I had this pail for only about 4 months when the handle screws started falling off. I would, fortunately, find them in the bucket and reattach. Thus happened so frequently that finally one got lost so now, about 6 or 7 months in, I have a pail with a detached handle. For this price, I am a bit disappointed that I am now looking for a replacement (I did try gluing also but that has not held).

Hi Flynn, thank you for your feedback and we are sorry to hear this! Please send us an email and we'd love to send you one of our new ZWS compost bins as a replacement :)

Love that it's an attractive bin and made with eco-responsible materials

This bin is so attractive I can keep it on my counter top. And the bamboo fiber filters make it even better. No smell, and easy to clean!

Cute but led to bug problems

The holes in the lid drew flies to the compost that got stuck in the filter. Now can't get rid of the flies in my kitchen... Pass on this bin and opt for something more functional.

love love

Love this compost bin! Makes me feel less guilty about throwing out food scraps. Only complaint is it’s not bigger! I feel like one double the size would be perfect for my family of 5. I also love the filter, my previous bin attracted so many fruit flies and I haven’t seen one since I purchased this one.

Does not stop the flies

I had to throw this bin away before I was even done making the affirm payments. I bought it to store food waste until I could drop off at local compost. We stored it under the sink to ward of pests but flies found their way in anyway. I had to throw it away because the filter/lid was COVERED in maggots. I love the concept but I’m using Tupperware in the freezer now and it’s working much better.

Hi Jess, thank you for the feedback. If you're planning to store food scraps in the bin in room temperature for more than 3 days, we definitely recommend putting it in your freezer, as it does not stop pests from getting to the scraps. I myself keep my countertop compost bin inside the freezer and empty it once full. I hope this helps!

Wonderful Home Addition!

My family and I have enjoyed this countertop compost bin. It holds a large amount of food waste. With a family of four we empty it about every three days. The quality is great, the material feels like thin ceramic even though it's bamboo. The lid and handle have both held up well. The ventilation helps to keep it from smelling. I hand wash it with hot water and soap. Good quality, would recommend and buy again!

This is perfect

It’s not obtrusive on my counter top, which is great.
I agree with other reviewers that the outsides get dirty and there isn’t much to be done about it.
The carbon filters do a decent job at masking any smells. I don’t empty mine very often.

Breaks easily

Had this for about two years before it started cracking you have to remember not to bang it when you’re trying to empty it. It is brittle. I’m on my second one and I’m going to be a lot more careful this time.

Loving it!

We have been searching for the right compost bin for awhile. This is perfect. No smells get through the bin or the lid. Like the feel of all as well. Just what we were looking for!

Clean and Sleek

I love this upgrade for composting. I live in an apartment overseas where every piece of trash is accounted for. Using this sleek compost bin saves me space, hassle, and the smell. When it's full, I just take it out to the food compost bin. Way easier that using a bag.

So Far, So Good!

So far, odor free with a lot of meal prep scraps in it. LOVE the terracotta color. Haven't put it through the dishwasher yet, but glad that it can be washed!

Love this Compost Bin

I wanted a more aesthetically pleasing countertop compost bin for my apartment, and while this one was a little more money than I would probably spend on something like this, it is certainly worth it. It is very durable and easy to clean. With the lighter color the lid can get a little grimy on top, so you do need to be careful about not overfilling it. During the summer time when my apartment is a little warm it does tend to gather fruit flies pretty quickly, so just something to look out for.

Countertop Compost Bin

This bin's arrival coincided with getting new flooring installed and our duplex neighbor moving out, and being invaded by sugar ants. The bin is a great improvement over the old insulated ice bucket we were using which held odors. The bin, thankfully, does not, However, ants majorly invaded the bin through the holes and filter in the lid-- not pleasant! We're not into poisoning pests, so have been regularaly spraying bin lid with 1:1 vinegar water solution, and it's now keeping them away. Otherwise, it's been great having this bin,

Breaks

This looks nice but doesn’t hold up. I’ve had for over a year and it’s cracked multiple times. Tried to fix but the body keeps cracking.
