SOLO Eyewear

"To live and to give is the motto that SOLO eyewear lives by. Visually impaired founder, Jenny Amaraneni, was inspired by Paul Polak's novel, Out of Poverty, where she discovered the massive amounts of people who don't have access to eyecare. Amaraneni recruited her friend and colleague, Dana Holliday, and together they launched SOLO eyewear. Today, the company has helped over 13,000 people across 32 countries by giving ten percent of SOLO's profits to the cause. By empowering others with the gift of eyesight, their efforts are compounded across the nations they affect. The name SOLO sprung from the idea that all it takes is one idea, one person, and one action to change the world.

Changing the world, one pair at a time

SOLO's vision is based on giving eyesight to those around the world without access to it. 80% of blindness is preventable, and SOLO has taken it upon themselves to address this issue. Through their partnerships with Aravind Eye Care System and Restoring Vision, they have been able to donate 10% of their profits to reach those who need eye-care. By funding eye exams, surgeries, and eyeglasses for these communities, they've been able to reach over 13,000 people in need. The company also plays close attention to the working conditions of their employees, and values ethical employment. Using an American based audit system, they make sure that their workers are treated in safe and healthy environments. SOLO's sunglass accessories, such as their cases and cords, are sourced from female artisans in Guatemala. Through a fair working wage, these women are then empowered to make a difference in their families and communities. From vendors at the beach to retail stores and beyond, environmentally degrading plastic plagues the eyewear industry. SOLO is striving to change this pattern by using sustainable materials in their eyewear. They utilize bamboo in its natural state, reshaping it into legs and frames for their glasses. When they need plastic, the plastic they use is recycled, in order to avoid extracting unnecessary resources. From their give-back, to their ethical employment, to their use of earth-friendly products, SOLO is a well-rounded sustainably focused company. Their efforts are changing the lives of their workers and those who they serve, and we love their passion for addressing the eyesight challenge on our planet.
