Saalt
It all started when Saalt co-founder Cherie made a call to her aunt in Venezuela. While catching up, she learned that disposable pads and tampons had not been available on store shelves for years, forcing her family members to find other alternatives. Cherie, who has 5 daughters, was worried about the dependence they had on disposables – and began searching for a practical solution that also empowered people to care for themselves (and the planet!)
Three months later, Cherie was sourcing reusable menstrual pads for hundreds of friends; simply to give them access to these non-disposable options. When she decided to source a menstrual cup, she couldn't find one that met her criteria and needs; and so she began the initial design of the Saalt menstrual cup!
While Cherie was busy at work designing, Amber had just sold her own business – a chocolate shop! She had heard what Cherie was up to and felt strongly that this was an option that could not only divert waste but also give people a safe and healthy option for caring for their periods. Amber joined Cherie with one simple mission: make the menstrual cup mainstream! And so Saalt was born – named after something that is essential for our bodies, and also natural.

Upgrade Your Period
"My family had gone months without period care‚no one should have to experience that" – Cherie Hoeger, co-founder of Saalt.
Saalt is more than just an effective and reliable menstrual cup, it's a lifestyle shift that empowers people to care for their period in a healthy and sustainable way. Made from 100% medical-grade silicone, a non-plastic material that's BPA-free, non-toxic, and easy to clean, the Saalt menstrual cup is endlessly reusable and helps to reduce reliance on disposable pads and tampons that often end up in our landfills. Single-use pads and tampons rely on traditional cotton, oftentimes laden with perfumes, chemicals, and toxins you don't want anywhere near your skin. Not only does cotton take a lot of resources, land, water, and energy to produce, but usually ends up in our landfills where it produces greenhouse gases while breaking down. Plus, most conventional period products are then combined with non-recyclable plastic applicators or packaging!
Unlike other period care alternatives, menstrual cups are a one-time purchase and can last nearly a decade, saving you money as well as waste. It can be worn day or night, with little to no risk of health implications like TSS, and comes with recyclable cardboard packaging. Accessible, affordable, and easy to use; what's not to love?
At its core, Saalt is here to empower. That's why they team up with non-profit partners to empower women and girls by donating reusable period care products that provide long-term solutions, as well as funding educational scholarships and life skills training courses for those in need. As a Certified B Corp, they commit 2% of their revenue to regions in need. Inspired by the United Nations Sustainable Development guidelines, they understand that investing and educating women is one of the fastest and most effective ways to change a community. By giving communities accessibility to menstrual care, as well as education, they're changing our world one person at a time.
