Moon Valley Organics

Many moons ago, Kim and Aaron Otto had a dream‚ and they called it Moon Valley Organics. They started as your average, hardworking farming family who envisioned an organic skin care company that could help people with skin conditions ‚ but, unlike pharmaceutical skin care products, could be grown and harvested from truly sustainable and organic ingredients. To begin this journey, they used connections from their vegetable farming days to connect with local farmers markets, and began to create an assorted collection of body care products using the natural ingredients they had available to them.

Moon Valley Organics, named for the sustainable vegetable farm near North Bend, Washington that gave them their start, soon grew to have 4 bar soaps, muscle rub, lip balm‚ and of course lotion bars! In 2000, they began selling their products at the world famous Pike Place Market in Seattle, which brought them tons of new exposure and changed the face of the company forever‚ but not their commitment to sustainability!

Through many years of hard work and devotion to Moon Valley Organics Kim and Otto, along with their employees, are ecstatic about the progress they have made as a brand. They've brought on doctors and naturopaths to help them create medical salves, become USDA Certified Organic, and have connected with World Wide Opportunities for Organic Farmers (WWOOF) to educate and give hands-on experience to other farmers. With sustainable packaging, ethical ingredients, and a dedication to our pollinators, Moon Valley Organics goes the extra mile to make sure their products support a healthy, happy planet.

Protecting Our Pollinators

Do you know exactly what's in your skincare? Moon Valley Organics believes you should and have all the information about the farm (and farmers!) that helped bring your products to you. From their involvement with the WWOOF Organization educating organic farmers on best practices, to their mostly plastic-free product packaging, they know that true sustainability means leading the way for others. To add to their long list of accomplishments, in 2009, Moon Valley Organics became USDA Certified Organic, bringing their business into the next level of sustainability. What does this really mean? USDA Certified Organic products pass strict rules and regulations regarding water usage, fertilizers, pesticides, added chemicals, and even production methods. This means no genetic engineering (bye GMOs!), no radiation, and no added substances or toxins. With so many companies and brands masking themselves as "organic" or "natural" we rely on businesses like Moon Valley Organics to lead the way towards ingredients that are truly good for the planet. Beyond their commitment to organic ingredients and working with new farmers, Moon Valley Organics is a Certified B Corporation, meaning they pass rigorous third-party standards for social, environmental, economic, and legal transparency and accountability. From the way they treat their network of employees, to their farming practices and environmental performance, Moon Valley continues to grow and develop their business to become the best B Corp they can be. As if all that wasn't enough, Moon Valley Organics has their own pet project: pollinator awareness and education! Part of their mission as a company is to benefit diverse pollinator populations, and they do so through a variety of pollinator-friendly products and knowledge-sharing. 10% of net profits go towards pollinator protection projects, and Moon Valley even has a 4-acre plot on their farm dedicated to growing pollinator-friendly plants! So what are pollinators? Pollinators are animals like bees, birds and bats who pollinate flowers while collecting nectar, and through this are able to create nearly 75% of our crops. Unfortunately, these important pollinators are in danger and need our help! Organic farms, such Moon Valley and their partners, have worked to create farms with pollinator habitats and polyculture plants that will ensure they will have a safe place to live that is free of dangerous pesticides and herbicides. From promoting healthy pollinator colonies, to farming education initiatives, to being Certified B Corp, Moon Valley Organics is showing that business can be both successful, and meaningful.
