Stop microfiber pollution at the source with the Guppyfriend Microwaste Washing Bag! According to a study from UCSB, a city the size of Berlin releases a wash-related volume of microfibers equivalent to 500,000 plastic bags... every single day. These plastic fibers from synthetic textiles are consumed by sea life, where they cause countless health problems that ultimately work their way up the food chain. The solution? Stop microfibers while you wash AND protect your clothes from shedding. The Guppyfriend is made from untreated polyamide 6.6, which captures microfibers in the washing machine so you can dispose of them properly. Plus, Guppyfriend donates profits to STOP! Micro Waste and the STOP! Plastic Academy non-profits to raise awareness about microplastic pollution and to educate students, adults, and industry partners about the problem. To use: Put synthetic textiles into the Guppyfriend. Do not overfill. Separate colors. Close the Guppyfriend and wash as usual. Take out wet textiles after washing. Remove the released microfibers from the upper corners inside of the Guppyfriend and dispose of properly. Want other ways to reduce microfiber pollution? What's the shopping version of wishcycling? Greenwashing, I guess.

I bought 2 guppy bags before I realized it's expensive, time consuming, and ineffective. First, I have to sort my clothes, or guess for the ones without tags. I would need multiple bags to contain them all. Sometimes the zipper just comes open in the wash. I can't use it with fuzzy blankets and clothing, which shed the most, because it they're not big enough for the larger blankets. Even if they did, it causes an uneven load for the smaller fuzzy clothing items because the mesh prevents the water from being wrung out. With all that time, money, and effort for removing so little microplastics that I can't even see? You know what's more effective? Accepting that you already bought the amount of plastic that you have and picking up one piece of plastic trash from the sidewalk. Or putting that money into funding Surfriders or a similar cleanup organization.

Big, sturdy washing bag.

Best laundry bag I’ve used so far. It’s big, sturdy, clothes come out clean… and the bonus part is, it’s great for the environment. Definitely worth the money.

Wish it worked with my washing machine!

I love this idea but unfortunately, it didn't work with my washing machine! It doesn't do the best with machines that have the center spire and it got my machine so off-kilter that I couldn't open up the closet door to get to it and pull it out.

Doesn't do anything

I waited years before buying, but now that I have -- honestly, I can't tell that it's doing anything. Videos show you'll be able to get microplastic-y "lint" out of the bag, and I've never had that. So, I'm not saying it doesn't work -- I just can't tell. I think the Girlfriend attachment on your machine seems like it might be worth looking into instead.

Hi Lauren, although you may not see anything, this bag does collect the tiny microfibers from clothing. In order to see a small amount, it could take a lot of washes, as something the fibers take time to build up. Hope this helps :) We will look into the Girlfriend attachment!
