LastObject
It's no secret: even at their best, single-use items can put a huge strain on the environment. Resources have to be harvested, products have to be crafted, and in the middle of all that, there's often a whole lot of CO2-producing shipping‚Äîand that's not even mentioning what happens to the products when you're done using them! The most frustrating part of it all is that for a lot of single-use products, it can feel like there's no better option. But now there is‚ LastObject.
Since their Kickstarter launch (where they raised over $1.1 million from 30,000+ backers!), LastObject has been on a mission to create environmentally-friendly and design-forward alternatives to all the single-use items that plague our daily lives. Their campaign against single-use started with LastSwab, a reusable and durable alternative to cotton swabs, but they're not stopping there. Their goal is to find the most negatively impactful items and create well-designed and durable versions to help push the world in a better direction‚ and we're here for it!

The End of Single Use
With their mission to replace single-use items, LastObject was founded on an eco-friendly ideal right from the start. But they didn't stop there! Instead, they go the extra step of ensuring their products and practices are grounded in sustainability.
We're always a fan of new products that help us give up single-use items. From sourcing the raw materials, to producing, packaging, and shipping the product, there's a lot that goes into creating items that we typically use ones. A great example? The single-use cotton swab. Globally, we use 1.5 billion cotton swabs per day, and according to the World Wildlife Foundation, single-use cotton swabs are listed as one of the top ten waste items found in the ocean. Replacing a cotton swab habit in your beauty or hygiene routines with LastSwab, LastObject's alternative, can help you avoid using up to a thousand swabs during its lifetime. That's a thousand things that won't end up in our waterways or in the landfill. Numbers-wise, that's what we call plain ol' awesome.
From product to packaging, LastObject also ensures they make everything with sustainability in mind. Their LastSwab is crafted from TPE and corn, and stored in a bio-based carrying case—meaning it's made mostly from plants. Their LastTissue, on the other hand, is stored in a durable silicone case, while the tissue itself is mindfully crafted from GOTS-certified organic cotton. So every time you blow your nose with a LastTissue, you're not only helping reduce the lumber and energy needed to create a typical tissue, but you're also saving at least 2 liters of water! Those are some eco-friendly boogers you've got there. Plus, all LastObject items also come with zero plastic packaging, instead opting for exclusively recyclable cardboard.
In addition to their sustainable supply chain, LastObject makes sure each customer purchase does additional good. Through their give-back program with Plastic Bank, LastObject also helps to create ethical plastic recycling centers in coastal communities, improving the local environment and the lives of those who live in it. With a similar goal in mind, they also work with The Bristol Gulls to help clean up plastic pollution in the ocean, as well as increase awareness on how to be green while at sea!
