fluf

Starting a new job or heading back to school often means a new lunchbox or backpack. However, many of the options on the market are flimsy, made of plastic, and not built to last.

While running their sustainable pillowcase company, Terra Kushner and Nathalie Butterfield discovered just how few eco-options there were in the lunch bag industry, with most being plastic-heavy, unwashable, and of poor quality and design. This gap in the market fueled their decision to eco-disrupt the way lunch is packed and ultimately prompted the pair to pivot the focus of their company from bedding to bags. Women-owned and based out of Toronto, Canada, fluf creates adorable lunchboxes, snack packs, and backpacks from safe and sustainable materials like organic cotton and rPET. Their bags are the perfect eco-alternative to the traditional plastic food storage options. They're reusable, fully washable, and made to last school year after school year.

A better lunch, the green way

When creating their eco-friendly packs, fluf places a huge priority on utilizing only sustainable materials. Each tote, backpack, and snack pouch is made with 100% GOTS certified organic cotton and lined with rPET made from post-consumer plastic water bottles. In contrast to conventionally-grown cotton, organic cotton is free of herbicides, pesticides, and other toxic fertilizers that threaten critical ecosystems and nearby waterways. Growing organic also means that those tending to and harvesting the cotton are not exposed to chemicals that may harm their health. As a company founded by two moms, fluf prioritizes safety when carefully selecting the materials and manufacturing processes behind their products. All products are free from BPA, phthalates, heavy metals, AZO dyes, and formaldehyde. That means kiddos can still sport a fun and creative lunch pack and parents can rest assured that those funky designs were printed with safe inks and dyes. Better for both people and the planet! Minimizing waste, particularly plastic waste, is a major part of fluf's mission. Beyond employing recycled plastic water bottles to create water-resistant interiors, fluf's only product packaging is a 100% recyclable and compostable hangtag. That means no unnecessary plastic wrapping or superfluous stickers or bags passed onto the consumer. Finally, in addition to their thoughtful materials and careful attention to minimal waste, fluf is deeply committed to ensuring that their goods are made with integrity, monitoring ethics at every step of the manufacturing process. They partner with a family-owned and operated factory in India to hand-make their adorable bags. To further establish a safe and just working environment, their supply chain is third-party certified safe and ethical by both Canadian and U.S. standards. This means workers are paid fair and living wages, parental leave is supported, and work is done in a safe and equitable environment. Upgrade your eco and ethical lunch routine with fluf!
