In 2011, the founder of Davids, Eric David Buss, realized that none of the toothpaste brands on the market were making products that satisfied the high environmental and health standards which people deserve. Buss found brands that claimed to be natural or Made in the USA, but upon closer evaluation, found these claims to be false or misleading. These toothpastes contained ingredients that were unhealthy or had been imported into the country, despite the labelling. Eric set out on a mission to create the highest quality premium natural toothpaste, with a commitment to sustainability and to you, the user.
After four years of research and development, Davids was officially launched in 2015, boasting a completely natural, healthy, and effective toothpaste. Many big toothpaste brands import ingredients from around the world and then manufacture their products in the USA, claiming that they are made in the USA. Davids, however, combines their sustainability efforts with a dedication to the US economy and sources 98% of their ingredients from the United States. These ingredients contain no artificial flavors, colors, preservatives, or sweeteners, and the toothpaste is completely vegan. Davids produces a natural toothpaste, yet they acknowledge that there is no FDA definition for the term "natural" so, they provide their own natural standards for which the products live up to. All of the ingredients are both naturally sourced and naturally derived. This means that the ingredients are either completely unaltered, or only minimally altered from their natural form. Naturally derived refers to the few natural ingredients which are processed in order to promote safety or efficacy standards. Davids is extremely transparent about the ingredients that they use, even providing a full list along with the purpose for each on their website.
Davids toothpaste is healthy and sustainable in every way, from its ingredients, packaging, and even in its product testing. The toothpaste contains no fluoride or sulfates due to both their environmental and their health concerns. Davids also contains no artificial flavors, colors, preservatives, sweeteners, or anything else harmful to your body! Even the flavoring comes naturally from essential oils resulting in a fresh mint finish.
Because they value animal welfare, Davids toothpaste is also 100% vegan. Plus, Davids toothpaste is certified cruelty free by Leaping Bunny, meaning they don't test any of their products on animals and they also don't purchase ingredients which have been tested on animals.
But not only are the ingredients sustainable, Davids packaging is also sustainable. The tube is made from recyclable aluminum with a BPA free food grade lining, and the outer packaging is a Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified recyclable paperboard. To recycle your tube, Davids suggests cutting off the top of the bottom of the tube, cleaning off any residual toothpaste, and putting it in your curbside recycling bin.
