Organic Content
Organic materials and ingredients are grown without the use of chemical pesticides or fertilizers, promoting a healthier use of land and decreasing harmful agricultural runoff. By steering clear of toxic chemicals, farm workers experience less exposure to hazardous conditions, promoting social responsibility as well as environmental stewardship. Choosing organic materials eliminates the use of insecticides and other harmful chemicals, promotes efficient resource use, and results in a safer products and a cleaner planet!

Recycled Content
Recycling is the process of taking an otherwise-discarded item or material and cleaning, sorting, and breaking it down into its basic form (such as fibers or pellets). This material is then used to produce new items. Recycling keeps useful materials from being discarded in landfills, prevents resource extraction due to the creation of new materials, and provides a new life for used items. Recycling can utilize both pre-consumer waste (materials left over from production) or post-consumer materials (used clothing, empty water bottles, etc).

Safe and Fair Labor
We support safe and fair labor practices when producing sustainable products. This company cares for their workers by fostering a safe work environment and providing their employees with fair wage.

Women Owned
This brand is owned by a majority of women. This includes everything from a small one-woman shop to a larger company where more than 51% of women make up the ownership team.

Porter Blue Apparel

Operating on the principles of design, freedom, and intentionality, San Francisco-based Porter Blue Apparel offers a variety of jeans in diverse cuts. Jeans, and specifically denim jeans, use primarily cotton, a very water and land-intensive crop. In contrast, Porter Blue Apparel employs only Better Cotton Denims, which use 75% less water, 85% fewer chemicals, and 65% less energy than conventionally-grown cotton AND doesn't contribute to soil degradation. Through their partnership with the global non-profit Better Cotton Initiative, Porter Blue Apparel contributes to the employment of safer and environmentally friendly cotton farming practices, where farmers are taught eco-agriculture techniques to reduce their water usage by up to 40%.

Through their inventive and eco-friendly process, Porter Blue offers denim that is ethically and sustainably produced -- something very hard to come by in the world of denim. Even the buttons and zippers on each pair of jeans are made from post-consumer recycled hardware from discarded garments. Talk about paying attention to every detail. With Porter Blue Apparel, all of our eco and ethical-denim dreams have come true!

Sturdy, attractive

High-waist: I am only 5'2" so high-waist pants can end up STUPID high so they basically attach to my bra - not these, they reach a great height and are form-fitting all the way around the top. Hurray!
Skinny: I like my skinny jeans to be form-fitting around the calves, but these are a nice straight cut for me. (Helping ease me into the new age of skinny jeans being uncool üòÇ)
Length: Again, I have short legs so I need to cuff mine twice to find a good length, but if I ever get worked up enough about it I'll have them altered.
Material: The denim feels strong and sturdy, like it will last much longer than stretchy options I have had. Yay!
My feelings: Based on everything above I definitely decided to keep these jeans and will keep them in my normal rotation, but wouldn't say they're my new favorites. I do love the full-size pockets and sturdy material though! And for a sustainable product, I am very glad I got these.
