These petroleum based chemicals help soften plastics, and bind fragrances to perfumes, deodorants, creams, and other personal care products. Phthalates are are not chemically bound, meaning they can easily get released into the air, water, or your body, just by using the products as intended. Phthalates have been found to disrupt the endocrine system, which can cause reproductive damage, hormonal imbalances, infertility, mood changes, metabolism changes, and more.

Sulfate Free
Sulfates are synthetic chemical ingredients commonly used in beauty products and household cleaners, like shampoos and dish soaps. You can usually identify sulfates in an ingredients list by looking out for the most common types: Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLC) and Sodium Laureth Sulfates (SLES). These chemicals, often derived from petroleum, are used to help form the “lather” we’re used to seeing in our beauty and cleaning products. When used in the shower or sink, these chemicals can flow through the pipes and into our waterways. Synthetic sulfates have been linked to allergic reactions, eye and skin irritation, and hair loss, and some studies suggest they contain carcinogenic ingredients.

Meliora

Meliora began when their co-founder, Kate, began wondering what was really in her cleaning products. After discovering companies aren't actually required to list all of their ingredients (what?!), Kate set out to create cleaning products with simple, earth-friendly ingredients that are listed on the front of the package. Meliora means ‚better‚Äù in Latin, and that's what these cleaning products are made to be. They're conscious about choosing ingredients that are effective, safe for the home and body, and cause no trouble for Mother Earth after the chores are said and done. Meliora boasts the MADE SAFE seal and Leaping Bunny on all products, ensuring that no products or ingredients build up on our bodies, in the environment, are toxic for the oceans, or are tested on animals.

Works Okay

This is a good option if you're looking for something more sustainable. I purchased the lemon lavender clove scent and it smells nice without leaving any scents on my laundry when it comes out. My laundry comes out clean. However, if you choose to wash your clothes with cold or cool water, the larger bits of powder do not dissolve, and I've had to restart multiple loads with a higher water temperature in order to get the debris off my clothes. A warm setting or higher seems to be best for this powder to dissolve and do its job.

Great product!

After doing a lot of research on zero-waste, zero-plastic laundry detergents I went with Meliora, and I'm so glad I made the switch. It truly does the job equally well or better and for the same or less cost as traditional laundry detergent!

Smells great and seems to work

Smells incredible, doesn't really leave much of any scent on the clothes which is fine. Seems to work well. Contains washing soda which I think can be hard on clothes, not sure if all environmentally friendly clothes washing products do? Finally, I got the canister and it was very, very, very hard to open. Once I got it open it was ok, but the scoop inside was very very hard to get out, in fact I haven't used it, I'm using something Else until I unearth the scoop it came with. So if I was to do it again I would just get the refill and put it in something else!

Great product, and minimal packaging to boot!

We wash only in cold water, so the product must first be dissolved in a bucket of very hot water. This used to be a bit easier. Recent batch leaves some partially unmixed, which creates whitish spots on fleecewear and darks. We're still satisfied, but considering a second rinse cycle to address the problem.

Love it

I've been using this laundry detergent for about 3 years now and it is my favorite! I use the lavender one, which leaves a very light scent. I have found that it doesn't work as great for really stinky items, but that's kinda what I expect when using a more natural product, so I'll use an extra scoop and/or wash those items separately.
