What is truly zero waste? Most of us recycle what we can–but what about everything else that can’t go into your curbside collection bin?
TerraCycle uses their free collections programs and their unique Zero Waste Boxes to recycle, upcycle, or reuse hard-to-recycle waste from communities across the country–instead of sending it to the incinerator or landfill. By treating trash as a material with true value, TerraCycle is changing our global waste system from a linear one to a more circular one–where things are designed to last for years, then be remade into awesome new products (not sent to the landfill!)
To get started, first pick the type of “trash” in your life you want to tackle. From cigarette butts to candy wrappers and even cleaning supplies, choose where you think the most non-recyclable waste in your life is coming from. Next, pick your size box. Do you live alone, or are you part of a family of 5? Once you get the ideal box for your life, simply start collecting the accepted waste to send back to TerraCycle!
Live the zero waste life of your dreams, without giving up what you love, thanks to TerraCycle.

Although pricey, takes many months to fill, so it’s quite cost effective.

This company opens up the ability to recycle those plastics that can’t actually be recycled. Ordering is easy, you fill it up, tie the bag, tape the top and fed-ex it off. Super easy and one more way to rest easy at night for being able to be responsible with some of that plastic you can’t help but accumulate.

Agree with all other review that it is pricey but I believe it is the right thing to do and we need to start paying for our own wastes (not just expect it is free) and willing to pay for something that has value to us i.e. the environment. I don’t think this solution solves the recycling problem but it is the right thing to do (than doing nothing) and moving toward the right direction. Cutting down on the usage and reliant of plastic products should go hand in hand with this product.

I highly recommend this product. I recycle a lot, but was always frustrated with the plastic that could not be put in with our regular recycling. Anything that keeps plastic out of the ocean gets a big thumbs up from me. Will continue to order these boxes. They are a bit pricey, but helping to save the planet makes them worth the price.

This box takes a wide variety of plastic and foil packaging that the local recycling station doesn’t accept. We use the medium box. By consistently tamping the contents down we make it last several months so it’s a big savings over the small box. We also use some other specialty TerraCycle boxes. They’re super easy to send back. Although it’s not cheap, we feel good about keeping plastic out of the ocean.

The box helps me realize with shock how much plastic trash our family generates from purchases and I would like to always recycle what we buy, but this box is awfully expensive. If I could buy this and everything boxes more affordably I would buy them all of the time on a regular basis. Currently buying one seems a luxury.

Hi, Mary! We’re so happy to hear you and your family are liking the Terracycle box and noticing the awareness this brings to your family’s plastic use. Awareness is the first step to making a change! We know the Terracycle price point is a bit high for many, so I’m happy to see that you’re finding the box useful while you have it. The price of the boxes does include shipping back to Terracycle and the labor required to sort and properly recycle the tough-to-recycle items. Terracycle also offers free recycling programs for common household items- maybe those can be a useful option for your family as well!
