The average school in America will use close to 250,000 pieces of paper each year, with almost 4 billion trees cut down annually across the globe to support this industry. Onyx and Green is breaking this cycle of waste, not only with their unique paper products made from low-impact sugarcane and upcycled construction waste, but with an entire line of school and office supplies. From backpacks, to pens, to even rubber bands and calculators, they infuse creativity and sustainability into the designs of all their products. With consistency in their values and transparency in their production, materials, and values, Onyx and Green is helping to find new solutions in the office supply industry.

I truly appreciate that the erasers are mostly made from recycled content;however, they do not offer well erasing with lead pencils(unless you maintain the preassure extremely light).I also would like to point out the plastic wrapping around each of the three erasers is unecessary, from my point of view that’s it.More than that,I am quite satified with the product.

Question
Sherrie –
Are these made from natural rubber or artificial rubber?

Hi Sherrie! These erasers are made of a mixture of pre-consumer and post-consumer recycled rubber, so the natural/artificial rubber content will vary per eraser batch.

Pretty basic erasers. They are a little small but work very well, are portable, colors are bright and fun. I recommend these erasers but I do agree that I hope they work towards changing the plastic part of their packaging.

I like that they are recycled rubber, but the plastic packaging really takes away from the product…

Hi Kyle! We’re stoked that you are enjoying these erasers! We’ve passed your feedback on to Onyx + Green so that they can work to reinvent this packaging.

Question
Sabrina –
What is the source of the recycled rubber? Is it preconsumer recycled, or postconsumer? I am thinking about potential contamination of the rubber. Thanks!

Hi, Sabrina! Onyx and Green utilize a mixture of half post-consumer and half pre-consumer rubber for these erasers, making them a great way to offset waste 🙂

Question
Corinne –
Can these erasers be disposed of in an eco friendly way after use?

Admin EarthHero –
Hey Corinne! Ideally, using the whole eraser up will mean it won’t have to be disposed of at all! However, if you have a little eraser stub leftover, the safest option for the planet is to toss it in the trash. While a “natural” material, rubber takes a very long time to biodegrade and the jury’s still out on what actually happens to any left over particles. The best thing to do with rubber products is to reuse, reuse, reuse (until you cannot!). 🙂
