Love this bin, haven’t smelled the compost at all. I don’t use the bags because I find it very easy to rinse out and dry after dumping the compost in the backyard bin.

I purchased this a little hesitant about having food scraps hang out in a bin for a week or so but I have officially been converted! While I do not compost myself, my municipality works with a local compost company so once a week I bring my scraps to the recycling center and empty my bin of food scraps. So easy, doesn’t smell, and looks cute! *UPDATE – I am a bit clumsy and have dropped this bin a handful of times. While it survived some drops, it did crack both on the side (repairable with some glue) and on the handle on the top of the lid which broke right on the threads (not really repairable). I have upgraded to the steel bin from the same brand which will make a dent rather than outright crack/break if dropped.

This looks great and controls the smell really well! I vermicompost outside but this great to hold the food scraps until I’m ready for the bin. There are two of us and it’s a great size to empty 1-2 times/week.

I thought this would be a nice little additive for my apartment, having something small and sturdy enough that I could just put in my kitchen counter. It looks a nice size and would probably last a few weeks for food scraps. Unfortunately I do know whether this was due to lack of packaging or aggressive mailmen, but mine came broken near the one handle and there’s a big break in the molded bamboo where the handle and part of the rim came off. Because of this break there’s a crack down the side and I am unsure if will hold in smell even if I do manage to fix the broken off area with gorilla glue (which I am currently in the process of testing.

So far I haven’t noticed any smell though I don’t plan on letting it fill for more than a week. It’s so cute and the perfect size for my husband and I. I wish I would’ve bought one of these earlier. I thought I wanted a metal one but honestly the bamboo plastic is nice for indoor use as it’s light and doesn’t make a lot of noise as metal might. The red is adorable and I’m glad I made this step to help further my eco friendly journey.

I’ve had my bin since April and I love it! I just wish the Earth Hero website sold the right size of compostable bags. I think the smallest size they sell is 3 gallon and the bin is 1 gallon. The charcoal filter really keeps the smell from escaping the bin.

Is the Charcoal available? I see the button to change the selection but when I tried to change to Charcoal it would flip back to Red and I think the Charcoal would go better with the colors in my kitchen.

Hi Hannah! There’s no tap with this compost bin, but if added to regularly, it should fill up before liquid leachate forms. Once full, simply transfer to a backyard compost pile or larger compost receptacle!

Bamboo compost bucket for kitchen…love it! Its solidly made has a good feel and look to it and in the top of the vented lid there is some absorbent lining that will keep the odors down while at the same time allowing air in! My son and his wife will find this a cool addition to their kitchen!
