Paraben Free
Parabens are synthetic chemical preservatives, commonly used in beauty products like shampoo, lotion, and deodorants. Parabens can accumulate in your body, and have been linked to hormonal disruption and reproductive problems. In studies of breast cancer patients, parabens have been found in the tissue of cancerous tumors–yikes! If you want to avoid Parabens in your beauty products, keep an eye out for methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben, and ethylparaben in the ingredients list.
Phthalate Free
Phthalates are found in toys, electronics, personal care products, plastic wraps, containers, and more. These petroleum based chemicals help soften plastics, and bind fragrances to perfumes, deodorants, creams, and other personal care products. Phthalates are are not chemically bound, meaning they can easily get released into the air, water, or your body, just by using the products as intended. Phthalates have been found to disrupt the endocrine system, which can cause reproductive damage, hormonal imbalances, infertility, mood changes, metabolism changes, and more.
Sulfate Free
Sulfates are synthetic chemical ingredients commonly used in beauty products and household cleaners, like shampoos and dish soaps. You can usually identify sulfates in an ingredients list by looking out for the most common types: Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLC) and Sodium Laureth Sulfates (SLES). These chemicals, often derived from petroleum, are used to help form the “lather” we’re used to seeing in our beauty and cleaning products. When used in the shower or sink, these chemicals can flow through the pipes and into our waterways. Synthetic sulfates have been linked to allergic reactions, eye and skin irritation, and hair loss, and some studies suggest they contain carcinogenic ingredients.

Washes dishes great. I’m clumsy and spill everything. This fit in the full circle bubble dish (it sticks out a bit but I don’t mind that) and works well with the sponge.

I had read some reviews that said that the dish soap left a residue, so I was concerned when I first used the product and felt like there was a waxy residue. BUT after I used it a few times, I didn’t experience a residue, and it soaped up and cleaned very well. I think the initial problem was due to the outside of the bar having contained more of some ingredients than others. Don’t judge this soap by the initial washings!
Also i loved that i could place the bar on the edge on the counter by the sink, and it stuck. It’s very easy to wipe around, and super easy to rub your sponge on it to get a much soap as you want, because the bar doesn’t move!

Officially converted to solid dish soap because of this product. This soap is long lasting and suds really well, I only use a dish brush or occasionally a Swedish dish cloth to clean my dishes and there have really only been a couple of instances where I preferred to use liquid castile soap. Highly recommend!

We’ve tried three different solid dish soaps, they were all good, but this one is the best. I find that it lasts longer if we do more dishes at the same time, instead of soaping up the sponge and just doing a couple dishes. It suds up better than others. Combined with the sponges we get from Grove Collaborative (they create better suds than other sponges we’ve tried) we can get these soap pucks to last quite awhile. They are attractive too!

As an alternative to bottled soap it works. It got most of our dishes clean. The struggle our family encountered was that when it came to washing something more oily (like a container with salad dressing) or stickier (the pan that had cinnamon buns) it just didn’t have enough “soapy power” to cut through and clean. Most of the time we found we had to scrub a lot (elbow grease never hurt anyone and all that) but the extra scrubbing did add more…stress to our hand painted plates/mugs and our non-stick pans. And after all that we weren’t able to air dry the dishes because the spotting was just appalling.
And then there is the sink. With a stainless steel sink we had little residue issue. A ceramic sink on the other hand…. we had to get a (refillable) bottle of Bronners liquid soap to scrub down the sink after each washing session. At that point why not just switch to Bronners soap full stop?

This is a good alternative to standard dish soap, however, it does take some getting used to. I highly recommend drying dishes right after washing as it does leave residue. I also always keep Bar Keepers friend around by sink for my pots and pans that need more scrubbing power. That being said, I have re-purchased this bar soap, and will keep purchasing.

The dish soap cuts through grease effectively and leaves dishes squeaky clean! It has a nice lemon scent and a little soap goes a long way; I just gave the top of the soap a little swipe or two with the dish scrub brush and it is enough to clean several dishes before I need a little more. This is going to last me longer than I anticipated, so it is worth the price. I like this better than the liquid castile soap I was using because it doesn’t come in any plastic packaging and it seems like you just need to use less product in this solid form. This was my first time purchasing solid castile soap and I will definitely buy it again when I run out.

I bought this dish soap to replace plastic bottles. It works great. I just rub it with a sponge or brush. The unexpected thing I like about it is you just reach out and get it on your sponge. No need to struggle with opening the plastic bottle, dealing with the soap plug that formed from the last use, and no big squirt of dish soap when you only want a little. No plastic and less waste!

How does this compare to the other castille dish soap? The other one is okay, but leaves a cloudy residue. Does this one leave less of a residue?
(0) (0) Watch Unwatch

Hi Laura! Great question. Depending on the water in your home, the sink type, and many other factors this can cause the cloudiness. Others have found that if the Solid dish soap has this issue, the Meliora other option does not and vice versa!

I love the concept of this product but it is a little harder to use than liquid dish soap – I sometimes have to scrub twice because the pot doesn’t quite feel clean the first time. Twice does it though. I actually wish it would soften up some if it would allow me to get more soap on my sponge.

I was really attracted to this product for its zero-waste quality, and I’ve been more than impressed. It suds up easily, smells nice, and seems to clean all my dishes adequately (I live in a dry cabin without running water, so I always end up with dubious cleanliness). Anyway, I love that it is easily accessible; I don’t need to free up a hand to pick up the bottle of detergent. It won’t travel well for when we’re camping, but it works for our cabin.

I was most concerned about the soap getting wet and it all melt away, however that is not the case it dries up really fast and has maintained its shape. It is easy to use: just
wet whatever you clean your dishes with and than rub the top of the soap bar and you got bubbles.
Just wanted to update my review: This soap is awesome and it is very long lasting for its size. It can last a family of 5 a solid month and can stretch to 2 months. That’s breakfast & dinner at home very often!

Cleans well which is what you want first and foremost from a soap, right? I was using liquid dish soap in my ‘Bubble Up Ceramic Dish’ but this happened to be just the right size for that dish too! At first, I would take it out every few days to rotate it and make sure the bottom dried so it wouldn’t get gross. Since then, I’ve accidentally gotten it stuck but there’s still no sign of the soap getting gross. Still, I might not keep it in that dish next time. Where I would normally add a few drops to the running water for a sink-soak, I just run this under the faucet for a couple seconds- still bubbles up okay and my dishes come out nice and clean. At first, my husband thought it was crazy to use this instead of liquid soap- he thought we should still have both. But now he sees that this works just as well, saves the Earth from unnecessary plastics/packaging, and saves us from having to rinse/recycle!

I was nervous how easy it would be to swipe a dish sponge over it and get enough lather…turns out, so easy that it makes reaching for a bottle of soap sound difficult!! And plenty of suds with a few swipes. From my short experience thus far, I recommend putting it in a flat-bottomed soap dish with a spongey, soap saver on the bottom for friction and it will easily stay in place as you swipe for suds! This functionality was actually the thing I was most uncertain about when purchasing, so glad it works so great!

Hi Grace! This soap is a little too big for the ceramic dish set. For best results, choose a slotted soap dish to allow adequate airflow to reach the soap. This allows it to dry out in between uses. 🙂
