Organic Wool
Organic wool presents less harm than conventional wool production, as both the feed and forage for the sheep must be organic, and no pesticides or insecticides can be used to treat the sheep. Organic wool can be harvested yearly without harming the sheep, and does not involve toxic “sheep dips” where farmers drench the sheep in harmful chemicals. Organically raised sheep are housed in ways that prevent overgrazing, and are not dependent on antibiotics or other drugs, as they live in healthy conditions. Wool is highly absorbent, so it requires little water to dye the finished fabrics. Wool is odor resistant, so you can get away with skipping washes (and saving water!), plus when wool is untreated it’s biodegradable.

I did read the reviews talking about the smell, but chanced it. I don’t know if it’s just my batch, I did notice a smell, but only when I put my nose directly on it. I’m quite sensitive to fragrance, so I would say the smell is completely mild. I’m not sure how to describe the scent, but I think it smelled like something natural. I don’t know why I think of a farm when I smelled it. I didn’t bother putting essential oils because I prefer my clothes to be fragrance free. I’ve used it a few times now. Whatever scent it came with will disappear/fade completely after a few uses, and it doesn’t transfer to the clothes at all anyway. It came at the exact time I was about to put my clothes in the dryer, so I used it right away. The instructions say to use it with like-colors or do a drying load without the clothes in it for the first use to avoid it possibly transferring lint, but I have to pay for drying time, so again, I chanced it. There was no lint transfer for me, so I’d say it’s fine. I can’t comment on whether it helps static or not. 99% of my clothes are made from natural materials, even before purchasing, I didn’t have a problem with static. It does make the dryer nosier, but that doesn’t bother me. I bought this hoping it’ll speed up the drying time. It doesn’t… not for me anyway. It does prevent your clothes or sheets from twisting in the dryer, and as a result, “fluffier” clothing with less wrinkles. I bought this on sale, I think for 35% off, so that softens the blow for me. I do believe it sucks some moisture from the air because when the dryer is done, I noticed the balls are a bit damp. Would I purchase this again knowing what I know now? On sale, yes. Full price, no. It’s nice that it stops my laundry from twisting together, but since it doesn’t cut down my drying time at all, it’s not necessary.

They speed up drying time but they leave the clothes static-y which I really dislike.
