About the Company

Brush with Bamboo

Every single plastic toothbrush, since production first began in the 1930’s, still exists in a landfill or ocean today (that’s over 4.7 billion brushes!) Shocked? So was the Kumar family, founders of Brush with Bamboo. They decided to take matters into their own hands and create a toothbrush that composts in nature, instead of polluting it!

Their signature toothbrush, made from sustainably grown 100% Certified Organic Wild Moso bamboo, features plant-based bio-bristles from Castor Bean oil and compostable packaging derived from vegetable cellophane. The brush handle is commercially compostable, as is their bamboo straws. Plus all their products are vegan, cruelty-free, BPA-free, and without toxins. How could it get better than that?

The days of your toothbrushes living longer than you do are in the past. With Brush with Bamboo, you are saying no to plastic pollution and yes to sustainable solutions! Together, we can keep our teeth clean and the environment even cleaner by switching over to eco-friendly alternatives like Brush with Bamboo.

How are these on shower glass? I want to make sure it wouldn’t scratch.

Hi Ky! These natural loofah sponges will not scratch glass (they’re actually gentle enough for exfoliating the body, too!). For a super-effective shower cleaning, we recommend pairing these with a gentle scouring powder. 🙂

    Really versatile and long lasting.

I bought a pack of these about a year ago and have not gone through all of them yet. My partner and I both use them in the shower and it’s very great for cleaning dishes. Plus when they are all used up, we just toss it into the compost and we don’t have to worry about it being sent to landfill. A life changer.

These work great with the solid dish soap blocks

    ondiney (verified owner)

I find these work really great with the solid dish soap blocks and help them suds up better. And they are the right middle ground of scrubbiness for most of our handwashing. I did find they are not scrubby enough for me for the shower, however.

Got to replace kitchen scrubber. It works well but not as great as I hoped. Isn’t a 1-1 swap with traditional scrubbers for stuck on particles. But does 90% of the job

    So Good!

    smithlizzie324 (verified owner)

It’s insane to me that plastic wasteful versions of loofahs and sponges have been considered the norm when these grow like this! They work fantastic and they have a really good amount of scrub to them. They work fantastic on our dishes which is primarily what we use them for.

For both uses, these last a good month and a half before getting funky. Worked very effectively for both. Did find a sprouting plant woven inside my last one, but that may have been a fluke.

These provide a pleasant, moderate level of exfoliation that is smoothing out some rough skin patches. I live in an area where everything mildews in the winter, so I’m excited that these drain/dry more quickly than my old scrub mitt and can go in the compost whenever their time is up.

    LOVE These!

We switched to these in an effort to further reduce our waste. We had been using a scrubber made from walnuts and recycled plastic but I really wanted to find a scrubber that we could just toss in the compost when the time came, and here it is! My husband wasn’t sold at first, but now he doesn’t want anything else. These are great scrubbers for dirty dishes, they hold up better than the previous products we have used, and for that reason I think they actually end up costing less, so I guess a win/win IS possible in 2020!

I bought these a couple weeks ago and they are just amazing! I’m using one to do dishes – suds up well and cleans well, also dries fast and no odor. I’m using another one in the shower as a loofah, it’s not too rough on my skin and not too soft, I feel like I’m getting a good clean. Happy that these will last for a while and that when I am done they can be composted! They are just perfect!

I bought these to replace the plastic loofahs that we have become so accustomed to using. They work nicely in the shower and really do soften up after being in water. They are slightly rougher than the plastic ones so a little less pressure has to be used. I really like that they can be composted when done.

I have been searching for the perfect low waste sponge for cleaning dishes for awhile now. Finally found it! All of the other zero waste options I have tried have not actually removed food from dishes as well as I wanted them to. These are affordable, completely compostable at end of life and actually work! Do not hesitate to try these.

Too thick, not sponge like-good scrubber tho

    Michelle Wicker (verified owner)

They’re not what I expected. Judging by the last photo I thought they were cut to be flatter when wet. They blow up to the size of a normal loofah. Downside is food gets stuck easily, especially tiny quinoa, chia seeds. I put them through the dishwasher and hold up well. I would buy again esp if I cannot find a thinner one easier to wash, ring out.

    Better than expected

    polina.abramson (verified owner)

So far am I liking these sponges even more than I initially expected. I’ve only ever used conventional sponges before so this was a bit of a switch. I cut the sponge in half to prolong its life and the half is plenty for me to use for cleaning my dishes. It lathers up very nicely and does a good job cleaning my dishes. They also dry very quickly, which I’m hoping means that it will take longer/be harder for bacteria to grow on it. I’m hoping that these will last much, much longer than conventional sponges because $20 is a pretty high price for sponges in my opinion. I will definitely continue using these types of sponges in the future but I may look for a cheaper version.

Absolutely love these. I got them to replace sponges because all the sponges I could find had some sort of plastic in them; but these are all natural fibers.
These are way better than sponges. They scrub well, hold soap and water well, but they also dry out in between uses so that they don’t mildew, grow bacteria, and become stinky like sponges do!
    Will definitely keep using them!

I’ve been trying to find an alternative to plastic loofahs for ages. I never really felt comfortable with natural sponges because of the risk that they’re wild and my purchase is doing more harm than good. But I feel a lot better knowing these ones specifically are farmed. They don’t hold onto soap as well as the plastic loofahs I’ve used, but that’s okay for me.

First time ever using a loofah. It is a bit exfoliating. Don’t think I’ll use it everyday. But a couple times a week for sure. Gives a nice lather that wash cloths don’t seem to hold. Can’t wait to throw it in the yard!

Hi Jess! These loofah scrubbers are 100% natural, Mayan loofahs grown using traditional, chemical-free methods in Guatemala. The brown spots are part of the natural loofah and are not dangerous- they’ll still scrub and exfoliate perfectly! You can reach out to hello@earthhero.com if you have any further questions 🙂

First time using a loofah. It does its job as a gentle scrubbie. I use it for my cast iron skillet, scrubbing food off of plates, and I use it to clean my bathroom as well. I’m big on lather, depending on what soap you use it can lather really well. I’ve read reviews about a smell and straight out of the package I didn’t notice a smell. I recommend it as an alternative/replacement to the Scott’s green scrubbies.

I was very excited to try these sponges, but now that I have, I would not purchase them again. While they are easy to use, expand and soften considerably with water, and scrub well, unfortunately they smell very badly. My fiance lovingly told me it smells like very very old people. I’m not sure how I will end up using these sponges because of the smell. I will likely use them with baking soda paste to clean the showers and sinks and stuff like that.
