Recycled Nylon
Recycled nylon salvages post-industrial and post-consumer nylon scraps in order to create new items. The scraps are cleaned, sorted, stripped down, and separated into fibers before being transformed into completely new products. This process avoids the energy and resource extraction required to produce virgin fibers, and takes advantage of the efforts used to create the item initially. Recycling nylon provides a second life for materials which might otherwise end up polluting the ocean or buried in a landfill. Recycled nylon can be made from salvaged fishing nets as well as carpet and scraps from clothing production.
Recycled Aluminum
Recycling scrap aluminum uses just 5% of the energy required to create virgin aluminum. When first-time aluminum is manufactured, the extraction, transportation, and processing required uses large amounts of energy, emits CO2, and degrades the natural environment due to deforestation and mining. Recycling aluminum not only reduces these harmful consequences, but also decreases the amount of aluminum taking up space in landfills. Best of all, aluminum maintains the same properties each time it is recycled, so it can be transformed into new materials indefinitely.
Repreve
Repreve is a certified brand of 100% post-consumer recycled PET fabric. Recycled PET utilizes salvaged post-consumer products such as water bottles and other plastic containers. These plastics are dried, crushed, and spun into yarn in order to create recycled PET fabric, or polyester. By providing a use for recycled plastics, companies encourage recycling programs worldwide, while adding new value to discarded items. Currently, over half of virgin PET production goes towards making textiles, so by utilizing recycled PET, post-consumer materials are both diverting waste while taking the place of raw materials. This helps to reduce the demand for the extraction of oil, as well as energy used to produce new synthetic fibers. Repreve has saved over 4 billion water bottles from entering the landfill since 2009.

This backpack was a Christmas gift that I had asked for, and I absolutely love it! I’m so impressed by how compact it can be – something that can easily fit in your purse – but also how much it can hold as a backpack! I recently packed my 15″ laptop, two small books, and my daily planner in it, plus a water bottle in one of the side pockets, and all with room to spare. I also like that, once it has expanded to a backpack, the travel pack pouch inverts to a smaller compartment at the top of the backpack; the carabiner that can clip the travel pouch to your purse or pants loop doubles as a carabiner for your keys inside the backpack once it’s inverted. All around great design.
Keep in mind – because of its compact nature, this pack does not have the padding in the body or straps that a regular backpack would have. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it for a student who needs to haul large, heavy textbooks everyday, but it’s perfect as a daypack and as portable, additional storage on the go.
PS – I got the Poseidon color, which is gorgeous, and looks just like it does on EarthHero’s site.

I can use this backpack because I have degenerative arthritis of the spine and my back is weak. The only problem is that it is too narrow and it lacks an attached belt to lock it around the waist. So it is not as ergonomic as it could be. There is an attached belt above the chest which can help a bit. The makers should consider ergonomics!

Bought this for my husband who did not care to carry around my bulky reusable bags. He liked that it came in more “manly” colors than the other ChicoBags I ordered. Backpack comes in a slightly larger pouch than the ChicoBag totes but has a handy clip. He likes that it can fit quite a bit and is easy to carry.

Bought this as a gift for my best friend and he loved it! Super compact bag when folded up but holds plenty of things. My friend also liked that it had a bottle holder/pocket on the side.

I purchased this for my mom’s birthday and she loved it! The little pocket pictured next to the pack in the first picture is actually the top pocket of the pack! It stuffs into that little pocket which is super rad since it prevents you from losing it!

I purchased this backpack to take to San Fran with my family. But today I gave it a test run when I wore it on the Manitou Incline. This bag is amazing! Love the deep outside drink pockets, all the inside room it has. And it fits an entire Camelback inside of it!! A must for any outdoor person!

Question

Does the part of the backpack that goes against your back have a lining, so that items inside don’t poke?

Good question! Since this bag is made to fit inside of the small built-in pouch, it’s made without any additional padding. Some of our team members, however, have traveled with this bag holding books, pens, and other items, and haven’t experienced any problems with items poking!

This is the perfect bag to travel with as it collapses into its own little pouch. No need to bring along a dedicated backpack anymore. It’s also got a surprising amount of space and love that its made with recycled water bottles!

I purchased this pack as a lightweight day pack. It carries everything I need for a day on the trails or at a local festival. I love that it packs up super small so I can stuff it in my carry on for our trip to Spain this summer.

This bag fits everything I like to take on long hikes: lunch, a water bottle, a hat, sunblock, bug spray, etc. It’s also really comfortable on my back, and I love how it folds into itself for storage

This is a very nice backpack. The reason i gave it 4 star is that it does not have very many compartments inside to have things a bit organized. Otherwise it is very nice and comfortable.

I’ve used this pack for work, for 20 mile hikes, and for travel and it’s come in handy every time. I love the water bottle pockets. The material is comfortable and the bag packs into the travel pack so easily. I wish there was a second strap for around the waist and around the chest, but that is my only qualm! Being as eco-friendly as it is, the strap issue is not a big deal.

I bought this for a “extra” bag to carry in my regular pack, but this bag is so much more!
I use it for trips to the farm market, pool, beach, shopping, hiking, kayaking, biking, it’s awesome!
**Bonus, living with Fibro myalgia I find it extremely tiring lugging around things I need to have with me when the bag I’m carrying is half the weight. The fact this pack is so light, comfy straps and adjustable….I can wear it and get fatigue from just having it on. Thank you!

Hey Geoff,
It definitely does! The ChicoBag as a whole has a 15L capacity, and the inside compartment can fit a 2L hydration reservoir.

Took this bag to Thailand a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised! It’s super lightweight (which is great when it’s 99 degrees and humid) and fits anything I needed for a day at the beach, hiking, or biking around. The water bottle pockets fit any size water bottle (or Pringles container), and the small outer pocket was perfect for things I needed easy access to like keys/wallet/passport.
I’d definitely recommend this bag!
