Compostable Packaging

Paraben Free
Parabens are synthetic chemical preservatives, commonly used in beauty products like shampoo, lotion, and deodorants. Parabens can accumulate in your body, and have been linked to hormonal disruption and reproductive problems. In studies of breast cancer patients, parabens have been found in the tissue of cancerous tumors–yikes! If you want to avoid Parabens in your beauty products, keep an eye out for methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben, and ethylparaben in the ingredients list.
Phthalate Free
Phthalates are found in toys, electronics, personal care products, plastic wraps, containers, and more. These petroleum based chemicals help soften plastics, and bind fragrances to perfumes, deodorants, creams, and other personal care products. Phthalates are are not chemically bound, meaning they can easily get released into the air, water, or your body, just by using the products as intended. Phthalates have been found to disrupt the endocrine system, which can cause reproductive damage, hormonal imbalances, infertility, mood changes, metabolism changes, and more.
Organic Content
Organic materials and ingredients are grown without the use of chemical pesticides or fertilizers, promoting a healthier use of land and decreasing harmful agricultural runoff. By steering clear of toxic chemicals, farm workers experience less exposure to hazardous conditions, promoting social responsibility as well as environmental stewardship. Choosing organic materials eliminates the use of insecticides and other harmful chemicals, promotes efficient resource use, and results in a safer products and a cleaner planet!

The plastic free packaging functions well. However, the balm is too soft, thin and shiny for my taste.

Eco-friendly, zero-waste, inoffensive taste! What more could you ask for? I do admittedly use carmex before bed, but this stuff is great to use as needed throughout the day.

The lip balm is packaged without any plastic; it feels like cardboard. The lip balm is excellent. I would definitely recommend to anyone

I did not want to pay too much for a lip balm, so I ordered this one, as it was the cheapest. It feels and smells great, and has not melted in our very warm bathroom. I have seen some critics about the packaging but as it is only paper, I don’t see how else it could work. Personally, I have not had any problems with it. I just wish, there was a bit more of the balm in the tube.

I can’t stand when my lips feel dry, and I use lip balm constantly. I was very pleased to find this lip balm on EarthHero – it’s my new go-to. I also like that it’s unflavored and unscented.
In terms of application, I’ve always preferred larger/wider lip balms, as opposed to the really petite ones, so this is perfect. My only advice is, upon opening it, be very careful when you first push on the tube because you don’t want too much of the balm sticking out at once!

I love this product. You do have to be careful when you push out more. What I do is place it against my lips before I push from the bottom, that way it doesn’t come out too far. I wouldn’t leave it in the car, but other than that I don’t see why it would melt in the summer.

Love using this as an alternative to traditional plastic lip balms. It gets a little messy with the whole needing to push it up and not a good way to push it back down (that I know of). It’s also a bit much on my lips when I first apply (can’t go and drink out of my glass right away without leaving a bunch on the side) but once a minute or two passes, it’s no different than any other lip balm.

I found this to be a little irritating. However, the packaging is really nice and it smells good. Just not the best for sensitive lips.

Great consistency and smell (kind of an overall mild shea butter smell and not strong at all). I also love the zero waste packaging! The cardboard tube is quite thick, so the balm actually stays in the tube really well (although you do have to be careful with the very top of the tube since it can get messy if you are not careful when you close the lid as anticipated with a paper tube holding a balm product). It holds up well and so far has not melted which was a concern I originally had with the packaging. It is much bigger than it looks which is nice. (About the exact same height as a Maybelline baby lips balm, but twice as thick around). Would definitely recommend.

Most lip balm tubes you buy are plastic, this one is paper. Which being a person who loves being as environmentally friendly as possible, I love this solution. It smells great as well.

I love the smell of this, the packaging is lightweight and practical, and it feels great on the lips! Unfortunately it cannot replace Aquaphor for my super dry lips (they start cracking/drying up if I use only this for a full day or two) but I can at least alternate throughout the day.

Hi Julia! So pleased that you’re liking this lip balm. The zero-waste packaging is hard to beat for sure! For a natural, petroleum-free Aquaphor replacement you might check out Elate’s Better Balm (either tinted or clear!) or All Good Goop (total lip, hand, elbow, etc. saver!). 😀

I absolutely love this product!! It glides on so smooth, feels great on and the 100% compostable packaging is so great! This is a zero wasters fave!! N don’t be fooled by the packaging. It’s easy to push back down after pushing up for applications. either Press down with your lips or simply place lid on n gently push down n it goes right back in. I’d give 10 stars if I could!

I love the chapstick itself. I find myself only needing it once, MAYBE twice a day… I love how it comes in plastic free packaging, too. My only negatives (which barely are negatives) is because it is not plastic, there’s no part Of the tubing to turn to push the chapstick up when it gets low, therefor you have to gently push the bottom up with your finger. I accidentally pushed it too much my first time, and I couldn’t push it back down inside the tube, so I just had to deal with it and gently cap it until I used enough to put the cap down all the way. Also, the cardboard tube gets a bit greasy. It’s going to be a bit of a concern when the weather gets warmer, but I’m still going to buy it!

I was surprised to find the gloss itself was in a cardboard tube. So, you push it up, then, if too far, you can’t twist it to get it back in. I had to use my finger. I’m also concerned about warmer weather – what if it melts? Could be a mess in paper. I appreciate the desire to use “environmental” packaging, but not sure this will work!

Question
dcowan57 –
Does plastic free also mean the tube is not plastic?

EarthHero –
Hi! This packaging is entirely plastic-free. Instead, you’ll find the lip balm inside a super handy biodegradable paper tube. 🙂

I have no complaints about the product. It works well. It currently states that it is “Vegan” on the website and I ordered it for a vegan friend. However, it does contain beeswax so I ended up keeping it for myself.
