Paraben Free
Parabens are synthetic chemical preservatives, commonly used in beauty products like shampoo, lotion, and deodorants. Parabens can accumulate in your body, and have been linked to hormonal disruption and reproductive problems. In studies of breast cancer patients, parabens have been found in the tissue of cancerous tumors–yikes! If you want to avoid Parabens in your beauty products, keep an eye out for methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben, and ethylparaben in the ingredients list.
Sulfate Free
Sulfates are synthetic chemical ingredients commonly used in beauty products and household cleaners, like shampoos and dish soaps. You can usually identify sulfates in an ingredients list by looking out for the most common types: Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLC) and Sodium Laureth Sulfates (SLES). These chemicals, often derived from petroleum, are used to help form the “lather” we’re used to seeing in our beauty and cleaning products. When used in the shower or sink, these chemicals can flow through the pipes and into our waterways. Synthetic sulfates have been linked to allergic reactions, eye and skin irritation, and hair loss, and some studies suggest they contain carcinogenic ingredients.

Organic Content

By steering clear of toxic chemicals, farm workers experience less exposure to hazardous conditions, promoting social responsibility as well as environmental stewardship. Choosing organic materials eliminates the use of insecticides and other harmful chemicals, promotes efficient resource use, and results in a safer products and a cleaner planet!

Question
Deanna –
I want to be as waste free as possible but may companies don’t make it easy for those of use who are allergic to any scented products whether shampoo, laundry soap, body wash. Kind scares me when something has a scent. It says hypoallergenic. Anyone else have any problems.

Hi Deanna! Thank you for your question. Plaine Products only uses scents from essential oils, so you won’t find any artificial fragrances or mysterious chemicals hidden inside! We haven’t heard of anyone having an allergy issue while using these, but our Product Team is currently on the hunt for some unscented hair care options, just in case. If you’d like any suggestions for other unscented products (body, laundry, soap, etc.), email support@earthhero.com and we’ll send you some ideas!

Question
merogers –
Does this work well for wavy/curly hair? I want to try it but I’m not sure how it will work for me and my husband so I’m hesitant to buy the large bottles. He has straight hair and doesn’t usually have any problem with shampoo but my hair is wavy and more stubborn. I currently use DevaCurl to keep dryness and frizz at bay but it comes in plastic and is very expensive. Is there any option for a sample size to see if this will work for us? We want to show more ethically and this seems like a great option! Please help or guide me in the right direction if able! Thank you!

Hi there! A couple of us in the office with curly hair have used (and loved!) Plaine Products. It’s great for curly hair because it helps eliminate any product buildup while still moisturizing and defining waves. It’s also super concentrated so a bottle should last you a few months. As for testing the product out, check out this travel size of the shampoo and conditioner. 😀

Question
Christine –
Hi! Does the refill cost less than the original investment? Can you explain the return process in greater detail in terms of cost and shipping time, would I just reuse the box they came in, etc? And I assume by providing the shipping label that means that the shipping is free for the returns? The answer below was still not 100% clear. Thank you! Will likely order trial size… refillable for travel is a great option.

Hi Christine! Plaine Products makes it so easy to get refills. When you feel like you’re running low, simply return to this page and select the “refill” option from the dropdown menu. The cost of refills remains the same, but shipping is covered. The new, full bottles will arrive with an included (free!) return label to use to send back your empty bottles. Feel free to use the same box, too! Hope this helps! Feel free to reach out to support@earthhero.com with any other questions. 😀

Lacey –
how long does a bottle last?
(0) (0) Watch Unwatch
Admin EarthHero –
Hi Lacey! This definitely depends on how often you’re washing your hair and how much hair you have…but folks in our office who use Plaine Products say that with daily use, it can last for 3-4 months. Wow! 🙂

Please, explain the pump and how to get it to work. The reusable bottle is great but if I can’t get the pump to release so I can use it, I won’t able to reuse the bottle efficiently.

Hi Andrea! Sounds like you may have received a faulty pump…we’ll get you a replacement ASAP! Look out for an email from us. 🙂

I love the smell of the shampoo, so fresh! Very happy to find a company to reuse a bottle.
Looking forward to see how the process works.

I use the rosemary mint vanilla shampoo and conditioner. It is a concentrated formula so you don’t need to use very much product per wash/conditioning. Very happy not be using plastic given the low likelihood of plastic containers being recycled even with the best of intentions. Love the closed circuit model with the refillable bottles.

A little goes a long way, my hair doesn’t feel dry and tangly after the shower (which is amazing for an eco wash!), they smell so refreshing, and we love the refillable bottles and the small carbon footprint!!! Worth the cost!

Really high quality product. Just need one squirt and it lathers up great. I have short hair so people with long hair might need more. Smells great. I just need one squirt of conditioner and i leave it on while i wash my body. Then rinse, my hair feels so soft. Bonus the containers are recyclable and refillable. I tried the shampoo bars but they turned to mush. I would highly recommend going to this product and just being prudent with your use 🙂 A little goes a long way.

Question
Gigi Austin –
Is there any way I can get a sample of the product to know if I like it before investing $60? I’m thrilled with the concept, but I don’t want to be stuck with a large quantity of hair product I don’t like and won’t use. Thanks!

I have tried a variety of vegan, eco-friendly hair products for the past year and a half and I was NEVER 100% satisfied with them. Either it made my hair too greasy, didn’t wash well enough, or left my naturally really frizzy hair even frizzier than before. I figured why not give this a shot since I am in the process of making my life and house zero waste. I was very impressed with how fast it was shipped, the great customer service I received when I had questions and the quality of the product overall. It smells AMAZING. A little goes a long ways. Whats even better is that it helps with my frizz and moisturizes my hair really well. I love everything this company stands for and I will definitely be sending my bottles back for a refill. 10/10 it is worth every dime!

Satura –
How is this product for natural (black) hair? What are the benefits for my curls?

Hey Satura,
These products work great for all hair types and hair colors. If you have natural or curly hair, Plaine Products recommends leaving the conditioner in for a few minutes while showering to get best results!

I chose the shampoo and conditioner as a low waste transition product to go from my plastic bottles to eventually a bar shampoo. However, I don’t think i’ll be doing the latter now! Before using this shampoo & conditioner , my hair was dull, my scalp was flaky, and I was upset by how much plastic packaging I went through with my shampoo and conditioner. The Plaine Products refillable vegan shampoo & conditioner set was an instant solution to both my hair and conscious woes. A little goes a long way too- one pump of shampoo lathers up my entire head of long hair. And one pump of conditioner coats its lengths. I am so wowed and recommend to all my friends and family now.

Question
Daria Rustad –
Is your shampoo and conditioner ph balanced to hair’s natural ph?
(0) (0) Watch Unwatch
Admin EarthHero –
Hey Daria,
Plaine Products lists that the ph range for the shampoo is 5 – 6, and the ph range for the conditioner is 5.5 – 6.5. The natural pH level for hair is between 4.5 and 5.5, so this set should work to maintain a healthy scalp and work with your hair’s natural pH levels!
