Paraben Free
Parabens are synthetic chemical preservatives, commonly used in beauty products like shampoo, lotion, and deodorants. Parabens can accumulate in your body, and have been linked to hormonal disruption and reproductive problems. In studies of breast cancer patients, parabens have been found in the tissue of cancerous tumors–yikes! If you want to avoid Parabens in your beauty products, keep an eye out for methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben, and ethylparaben in the ingredients list.
Phthalate Free
Phthalates are found in toys, electronics, personal care products, plastic wraps, containers, and more. These petroleum based chemicals help soften plastics, and bind fragrances to perfumes, deodorants, creams, and other personal care products. Phthalates are are not chemically bound, meaning they can easily get released into the air, water, or your body, just by using the products as intended. Phthalates have been found to disrupt the endocrine system, which can cause reproductive damage, hormonal imbalances, infertility, mood changes, metabolism changes, and more.
Sulfate Free
Sulfates are synthetic chemical ingredients commonly used in beauty products and household cleaners, like shampoos and dish soaps. You can usually identify sulfates in an ingredients list by looking out for the most common types: Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLC) and Sodium Laureth Sulfates (SLES). These chemicals, often derived from petroleum, are used to help form the “lather” we’re used to seeing in our beauty and cleaning products. When used in the shower or sink, these chemicals can flow through the pipes and into our waterways. Synthetic sulfates have been linked to allergic reactions, eye and skin irritation, and hair loss, and some studies suggest they contain carcinogenic ingredients.

I love these as a simple but interesting gift! I am glad they don’t come wrapped in plastic but it would be awesome if they had a no tin option as well for refills.

Question
Anu –
Can you buy the bar without the tin? I like it but don’t want to keep getting or tins that I have to dispose of.

Hi Anu! At this time, the Moon Valley lotion bars can only be purchased with the tin. I’ve shared your feedback with our product team so that they know you’d be interested in a tin-free package! One of the reasons we love these bars is because the tins can be repurposed or recycled easily 😀

I thought it would just come in the paper packaging. So I was trying to figure out what I would store it in but it came with a metal tin to store it in. Smells amazing! More on the side of French lavender and it’s very smooth and soaks in fast! I also have very sensitive skin and this doesn’t irritate it at all!

This lotion bar is very rich and, like many other lotion bars, takes some time to soak in. Oftentimes that’s just the name of the lotion bar game. That being said I think its still a fantastic lotion bar that does absorb faster than other lotion bars I’ve tried. The smell is also nice and mild, and would be a great option for someone that is sensitive to strong scents. Leaves my skin soft and smooth, just change your expectations that it is going to take e few minutes to sink in and accommodate that.

This is the perfect product for the winter. I apply it all over and then take a few minutes rubbing it in. It’s perfect for on-the-go or travel but even better as a base layer for a cream-type lotion. The company is great and the ingredients couldn’t be better. My skin is super sensitive and I haven’t had a single issue with Moon Valley Organics.

I wanted to love this product, but the application is too harsh and it is too greasy for me. It doesn’t soak in well either. I was left feeling greasy after application.

Hi Ella, we are so bummed this lotion bar didn’t work out for you as you had hoped. Our team will be in touch to find some other options!

My one complaint with the product, is that as far as I can tell, you can’t get it without the tin, which is sub-optimal. As much as I like the tin, I only need one, and don’t want to use the resources to get more than one. This would be totally perfect if there was a naked option, like a refill that came without the tin.

This lotion smells wonderful and makes my hands feel so soft after using it. It is a little heavy when you first put it on but it soaks in so nicely. I like the recyclable tin instead of plastic and the lotion bar lasts a long time.

I loooove the concept of this and everything about it…except…it’s very oily. I feel like I can’t touch things til a few minutes later because it leaves a mark. But good for before bed or when you don’t plan on doing a lot with your hands for a while.

The bar smells AMAZING! I’ve used the bar from Jan to Early July (lasted a long time!) particularly nice with all the hand washing we’ve been doing. A little goes a long way. It melts and absorbs into the skin very well. The exception is the palm of my hands, for some reason they always feel a bit greasy, but not enough to detract.
I absolutely LOVE the packaging, I seals very well, and fits perfectly in a backpack or small crossbody. Note that on really warm days the bar can be tricky to get out. The only thing that you should note is that for some people with general low hand dexterity (like arthritis for example) is that the tin can be very difficult to open since it doesn’t have grooves on the side.
