Cruelty Free
Cruelty Free is a certification process through PETA that labels products that are not tested on animals. Paraben Free
Parabens are synthetic chemical preservatives, commonly used in beauty products like shampoo, lotion, and deodorants. Parabens can accumulate in your body, and have been linked to hormonal disruption and reproductive problems. In studies of breast cancer patients, parabens have been found in the tissue of cancerous tumors–yikes! If you want to avoid Parabens in your beauty products, keep an eye out for methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben, and ethylparaben in the ingredients list.
Phthalate Free
Phthalates are found in toys, electronics, personal care products, plastic wraps, containers, and more. These petroleum based chemicals help soften plastics, and bind fragrances to perfumes, deodorants, creams, and other personal care products. Phthalates are are not chemically bound, meaning they can easily get released into the air, water, or your body, just by using the products as intended. Phthalates have been found to disrupt the endocrine system, which can cause reproductive damage, hormonal imbalances, infertility, mood changes, metabolism changes, and more.
Sulfate Free
Sulfates are synthetic chemical ingredients commonly used in beauty products and household cleaners, like shampoos and dish soaps. You can usually identify sulfates in an ingredients list by looking out for the most common types: Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLC) and Sodium Laureth Sulfates (SLES). These chemicals, often derived from petroleum, are used to help form the “lather” we’re used to seeing in our beauty and cleaning products. When used in the shower or sink, these chemicals can flow through the pipes and into our waterways. Synthetic sulfates have been linked to allergic reactions, eye and skin irritation, and hair loss, and some studies suggest they contain carcinogenic ingredients.

Very pleasant scent, it lingers but isn’t too potent. And it ACTUALLY helps with volume (medium thick, straight, fine hair). Unfortunately I won’t buy it again because it doesn’t lather under cool water. If you wash your hair with warm/hot water, it’s a good fit.

I like this shampoo. It does a great job and my hair feels nice afterwards. Because it’s a solid you have to rub it through your hair a bit to get a good lather. My hair is thin and fine and not oily.

I have been trying many different shampoo bars to find one that works best for my hair, I typically use ethique’s yellow bar, but after reading the reviews I decided to try this one. Unfortunately, this bar has not been a success. It leaves my hair feeling sticky and gross and it is very difficult to get a lather. For reference I have thin, easily tangled, oily hair. However, I did give the product three stars because it does create more volume in my typically very flat hair.

I have long hair that tangles easily, and I was SO IMPRESSED at how clean and volumized my hair felt after using this shampoo! The bar is smaller than I thought it would be, but I can tell it’s going to last a LONG time. Be patient when using, it takes a little while to get sudsy. So happy with this product!

I do not normally leave reviews. But I cannot say enough good about this product. It leaves my hair soft & clean feeling and gives it some much needed volume. I have been using this bar shampoo and conditioner for just about a year now. I have used 4 shampoo bars and 1 conditioner bar in a year’s time. And I wash my hair just about every day and lather rinse and repeat every time and apply a small amount of conditioner. Before I started using this product I was skeptical that it would not last long but was I wrong. I would have used double the amount of bottle shampoo and conditioner. And no trash in a landfill!!

I’ve tried a couple of different shampoo bars and this one works well! My only complaint is I wish it had a stronger scent. That’s not everyone’s favorite thing for shampoo, but I want my scalp to smell good after I wash it, and this doesn’t really smell like anything. I do love that it leaves no weird feeling of my hair though as other shampoo bars have.

Size so far makes it easy to run all over my scalp, hopefully that remains the case as it shrinks down. But I had no problems with the lather, worked as well as my Ethique bar I had tried before! For any type of shampoo, bottled or not, I tend to lather up twice – I have a lot of very thick hair. The first wash allows the second to lather up throughout much better. I’ve also found with shampoo bars that it helps to run the bar across my head and then very quickly dip my head back into the shower stream and then lather up.

My boyfriend and I both enjoyed this shampoo bar. It has a nice scent, and lasts a pretty long time. He uses it 5-6 days out of the week and I use it 1-2 days out of the week, and it’s lasted us a little over 2 months. The only drawback is that it takes a while to work the product into my hair for it to feel clean.

I can’t say enough good things about this shampoo. I’m so glad this is an option for me now and I’m recommending it to everyone. I use the volumizing shampoo and the moisturizing conditioner and the mix-and-match set has been great for my heavy, wavy hair. Sometimes I lather, rinse, and repeat but this is still lasting a long time. I use a wooden soap dish to help keep it dry and that is working out. It feels good in your hand and the shape prevents it from slipping out like so many bars of soap. It lathers up so much without all the chemicals. Smells great too. I hope this company comes out with an anti-frizz bar I can use post hair washing.

I love the delicious fresh scent of this bar and the awesome shape. It makes it very easy to apply to your hair. It also does a great job cleansing but not stripping. I don’t have to use a conditioner with this shampoo because it leaves my hair nicely moisturized. Great on my curls, still sticking to washing every 2-3 days.

I have had hibar’s on my list for a little while but I had to finish my last bottle. I have thin sometimes oily hair and the shampoo definitely helps give me a little body! I don’t even have to use product after. I do get a little oily on day two but that’s normal for me and I will alternate with the maintain bar. I was surprised how much it lathers once you get enough soap rubbed into your hair too!

Hi Elissa! Great question. HiBAR is different from many of the solid shampoos on the market. Many generic shampoo bars are “saponified” and are closer to bar soap than hair-friendly shampoo. These tend to dry out hair and leave a coating that leads to that heavy, “still dirty” feeling. HiBAR has the same ingredients as a natural high-end shampoo, just without the water. Their bars are also formulated for specific hair types, without sulfates, parabens, or salt. It took HiBar about 3 years of testing and trials to come up with their incredible formulas!
