Parafina

Reinventing the eyewear market and reintroducing consumers to products that are thoughtfully designed and carefully crafted is a tall order to fill, but Parafina & Co. does it effortlessly! Recycling materials like tires, cork, plastic, and aluminum into their frames, Parafina & Co. aims to offer designer eyewear in eco-friendly materials at a revolutionary price and lead the way for socially conscious businesses.

Rooted in the importance of giving, Parafina. is so much more than just a pair of glasses. Co-Founders Alfonso de Luis and Samuel Soria like to say that they did not choose Paraguay, but Paraguay chose them! On a trip in 2014, they saw how difficult it was for the children to get a quality education and when launching Parafina, they knew it was nonnegotiable for these children to be included in their mission. Since then, Parafina has donated 5% of each purchase to a scholarship fund providing meals, books, psychological help, and a safe space for them to learn.

Eco-Friendly Eyewear

The team at Parafina defines themselves as being recycled and socially-minded - meaning they give back to the people and take care of the planet! When you purchase a pair of Parafina glasses, you can feel good about your purchase for so many reasons. Unlike typical frames, Parafina frames are made from recycled and eco-friendly materials like recycled aluminum, rubber, cork, plastic, and bamboo. All packaging is made from recycled plastic, too. In 2018 glasses, 201 aluminum cans were recycled, 434 PET bottles were reused, and 1.200 tons of C02 was saved! That is truly impressive compared to a traditional manufacturer of glasses whose materials are much more energy-intensive. Their scholarship program is funded with 5% of each purchase. Regardless of their gender, ethnicity, or environment, the program strives to ensure children in Paraguay have access to a stable and quality education. This scholarship program supplies all necessities like books, transportation, and meals, as well as physiological aid. So far, 190 children have been helped, 380 hot meals provided, and 1800 lecture hours have been completed. How's that for impact! Additionally, Parafina's social responsibility extends beyond their scholarship program to many other initiatives. They have supplied material for 1000+ eye surgeries in the Congo, collaborated with the Spanish Association Against Cancer in their research, and helped to create jobs for people with limited access to the labor market.
