Grow green with the Sustainable Potting and Soil Mix from DEN Sustainable Soils! Featuring an all-natural formula that’s built around OurCarbon™ BioChar –  sequestered carbon made from organic waste diverted from landfills – this soil mix is better for your plants and the planet. This formula is a perfect general-use mixture and works great with most houseplants and gardens. Plus, from its fir bark that comes from nearby FSC certified forests to its worm castings made by happy, California worms, DEN ensures they source all of their ingredients within 500 miles of their Bay Area office — cutting down on transportation emissions!
This company donates a portion of their time or profits to charitable efforts in their community or abroad.

This product contains material that can break down into soil in either a backyard or industrial composting system. These products are declared compostable by the manufacturer, but may not third-party certified. Contact your local waste-hauler or composting facility to determine where these materials may be accepted. Certain materials may be better fit for industrial facilities than backyard composting systems. Industrial facilities may not exist in your area.

Made in the USA
This product was made in the United States. Buying locally made items helps to reduce harmful emissions that result from transportation during and after the production process. Purchasing products made in the United States also ensures that the items are produced in ways that meet strict safety and labor standards.

Plastic Free
No petroleum-based plastics are used in this product or its packaging. Plastic can be difficult to properly recycle, may never biodegrade, and is known to leech toxic chemicals into our bodies and environment. Single-use plastics also require extracting and processing of finite resources, so seeking out biodegradable, infinitely recyclable, or durable products and packaging is recommended whenever possible.

Sustainably Harvested
Some or all of the ingredients or materials used to produce this item have been sustainably harvested. Sustainable practices involve managing land in ways that prevent overharvesting, preserve the natural ecosystems and animal habitats, and ensure a sustainable harvest for the future.

DEN helps plant-lovers show their love for nature with potting mixes that actually reduce carbon emissions. The process substitutes negative carbon-intensive materials for alternatives like OurCarbon biochar, which absorbs and stores carbon in the planting soil. All of DEN's ingredients are sourced locally, within 500 miles of their San Francisco base, which reduces travel emissions and supports local businesses. Plus, DEN's packaging is all biodegradable and plastic-free, and every shipment is carbon-neutral! DEN also gives back to their community by donating their soil products to the parks department and local farmers, as well as supporting educational programs aimed at increasing awareness about carbon farming and the important role that soil plays in our ecosystems. This is the strangest soil I've ever worked with! Either it's suuuuper hydrophobic, or there's some special trick needed to work with it that isn't included in any of the instructions or packaging details. I used it to pot up some pothos cuttings that were previously propagating in water. Like a previous reviewer mentioned, the water just sat on top. I took a skewer and poked some holes through the soil to encourage it to at least drain through to the bottom (my container does not have a drainage hole). I figured maybe it just needed some time to absorb it? Overnight, I'm left with bone dry soil on top of standing water at the bottom of the container. It's maybe a fine situation for these cuttings, so I guess I'll leave it be and see what comes of it.

Hi there Amanda, thanks so much for this feedback. We will be sure to pass this along. If you are still having issues and need help troubleshooting, please email!

Great soil

Got this soil for repotting a few new plants and was pretty impressed, you can tell just by feeling it that it's high quality. My plants are super happy!

Worst potting soil

This is literally the worst potting soil I've ever worked with. Water just sits on the top of the soil and never drains. I had a plant die within days of repotting in this soil. When I pulled it out the roots were bone dry despite multiple attempts at watering it.

Hi Laura, we're sorry to hear that this soil didn't work out for you. We haven't heard any feedback like this before! Our team has been in touch to assist.
