A little brush making a big difference

Who They Are

It all started with two best friends, an idea, and the desire to make a difference. Founders Steve Hyde and Christopher Fous wanted to create a product that could unify and inspire the world to live more sustainably. Eureka! Oral care is universal. Regardless of age, sex, race, religion, or whatever other factor, people want to keep their mouths fresh and clean! The two friends decided to run with this idea, and in 2013 WooBamboo was born. At its core, WooBamboo combines sustainability and eco-friendliness to make a line of natural oral care that inspires people to do their part in protecting our environment. With 2 billion plastic toothbrushes ending up in our oceans and landfills every year, Steve and Christopher believe that small changes in our daily lives can make a big difference. By turning to nature's super-grass as the foundation for their toothbrushes, they’re saying no to short-term plastic use. WooBamboo sees the importance of starting and ending the day with a positive impact, and they believe their toothbrushes can do just that.

Why We Like Them

Woobamboo wants to be a part of the solution, not the problem. And the problem is that every plastic toothbrush ever made still exists somewhere on Earth today. WooBamboo is fighting our dependence on plastic by turning to renewable moso bamboo, sustainably harvested in China. Along with toothbrushes, they have a line of natural oral care, made to care for both you and the environment. This includes toothbrushes for kids and pets as well as biodegradable floss.

Where plastic is the problem, bamboo can be the solution (for toothbrushes, that is). Nature’s super-grass is comprised of a rhizome root system. Simply, this means that when bamboo stalks are cut, the bamboo regenerates! WooBamboo is panda-friendly as well, intentionally using moso bamboo (which pandas do not eat!) to craft their brush handles. Their bamboo is sustainably grown, organic, BPA-free, naturally antimicrobial, durable and, to ensure your toothbrush won’t be here as long as you are, biodegradable.

Even the most environmentally friendly products can be packaged in materials that are not so eco-friendly. However, Woobamboo uses recycled and recyclable materials for their toothbrush packaging as well as renewable, plant-based packaging for their floss to ensure that they are maximizing their waste reducing capabilities.

As a member of the grass family, bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants on earth. It requires no irrigation, pesticides or fertilizers to grow, and can be harvested within 3-5 years, as compared to approximately 30+ years for traditional hardwoods. Bamboo is extremely adaptable and produces more oxygen per acre than large tree species, while using a fraction of the water to grow. Its durable and lightweight qualities make bamboo a great alternative for hard wood products!

Companies can adopt multiple practices to print clothing, books, and catalogs in a more environmentally safe way. Low impact inks can include vegetable, soy, or water based alternatives, and generally do not contain harmful toxins like heavy metals or phthalates.
