P.F. Candle Co.

Classic and Non Toxic

Who They Are

This humble company was founded by husband and wife duo, Thomas Neuberger and Kristen Pumphery, in 2008. They were inspired to start P.F. Candle Co in order to provide people with high quality candles with luxurious smells, all at an affordable price. The cute couple sees fragrance as a way to elevate the everyday, which is why their products are also socially conscious. When Kristen lost her job during the recession, and moved to Austin, Texas, she was able to cultivate her do-it-yourself mindset. It was then that she first started her Etsy store and met her husband, Thomas. From that point, their business and passion for exceptional candles expanded into a successful startup!

Since neither husband nor wife have formal business degrees, they saw a fun opportunity to become entrepreneurs, and have been loving every minute of it! P.F. Candle Co began as a small operation located in a studio apartment, and has now grown to a total of more than 60 employees!

Why We Like Them

Candles are one of the most comforting and homey things you can buy, as smells have the power to evoke moods, feelings, and memories. Pumpkin for fall, floral scents for spring, and peppermint for winter are all classic scents we all enjoy getting a waft of! Just as it’s important to match your fragrances with the seasons, it’s important to make sure your candle ingredients aren’t harmful. Many candles are made with paraffin wax, which is derived from petroleum, and releases harmful chemicals when you burn them…yuck!

Luckily, P.F. Candle Co uses 100% domestically sourced soy wax and phthalate free ingredients. Their candles give you all of the benefits of the lavish smells you love, without the added worry of harmful fumes. Additionally, P.F. Candle Co is dedicated to the quality and reliability of their products, which is why they make sure to develop, produce, test, and package each item by hand in their warehouse in Los Angeles, California. This ensures that all of the candles are the highest quality and meet the strictest standards for P.F. Candle Co products.

P.F. Candle Co is also extremely dedicated to creating products that live longer than their typical use life. That’s why their jars are recyclable and can be repurposed. P.F. Candle Co encourages you to reuse your candle jar as a vase, storage containers, and much more! Some clever ideas are to fill them with qtips, store a homemade body scrub, or even to make your own diffusers with lava rocks and essential oils! It’s a product that keeps on giving!

Parabens are synthetic chemical preservatives, commonly used in beauty products like shampoo, lotion, and deodorants. Parabens can accumulate in your body, and have been linked to hormonal disruption and reproductive problems. In studies of breast cancer patients, parabens have been found in the tissue of cancerous tumors–yikes! If you want to avoid Parabens in your beauty products, keep an eye out for methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben, and ethylparaben in the ingredients list.

Phthalates are found in toys, electronics, personal care products, plastic wraps, containers, and more. These petroleum based chemicals help soften plastics, and bind fragrances to perfumes, deodorants, creams, and other personal care products. Phthalates are are not chemically bound, meaning they can easily get released into the air, water, or your body, just by using the products as intended. Phthalates have been found to disrupt the endocrine system, which can cause reproductive damage, hormonal imbalances, infertility, mood changes, metabolism changes, and more.
