Functional Fashion

Who They Are

Lässig’s founders started this company on the belief that diaper bags shouldn’t have to look like, well, diaper bags. Meaning “casual” in German, Lässig creates everyday products with simplicity and elegance in mind. They believe that functional and trendy can coexist peacefully, and that they don’t have to compromise on the planet’s future to make it happen. This philosophy extends into all of their products today, resulting in high-quality, sustainable bags inspired by fashion trends across the globe.

Why We Like Them

To Lässig, sustainability is an attitude. Ethical and earth-friendly production lie at the center of their business model. From personally inspecting the working conditions in their facilities to consistently striving toward more sustainable materials, they take responsibility for their products. Through their care, they help parents support a healthy family as well as a healthy environment for the future.

Lässig puts a great amount of emphasis on the materials that go into their products. By using a special dyeing process on some of their products called spin dye, where the material is colored before yarn is spun, their colors remain bright while reducing water and energy usage.

Through Repreve® and CYCLEPET® recycled materials in some of their product lines, they are finding innovative ways to divert landfill waste while utilizing materials to make durable products.

Lässig has won numerous awards for their products, such as the 2017 Plus X Award for high quality, design, ease of use, functionality and ecology; the 2017 Mom’s Choice Award, and multiple eco-excellence awards, just to name a few. Sustainability doesn’t stop with their products, however. Lässig actively advocates for numerous causes related to environmental and animal protection, such as the Bärenherz children’s hospice in Wiesbaden, the SharkProject, Me-You-Us-Without violence, and the Momella Foundation.

Recycled PET utilizes salvaged post-industrial PET scraps and post-consumer products such as water bottles and other plastic containers. These plastics are dried, crushed, and spun into yarn in order to create recycled PET fabric, or polyester. By providing a use for recycled plastics, companies encourage recycling programs worldwide, while adding new value to discarded items. Currently, over half of virgin PET production goes towards making textiles, so by utilizing recycled PET, post-consumer materials are both diverting waste while taking the place of raw materials. This helps to reduce the demand for the extraction of oil, as well as energy used to produce new synthetic fibers.
