Placing Earth First

Who They Are

Happy Earth Apparel is a model of what can and should be done within the apparel industry. Out of extreme dedication to the health of our planet, they’ve created staple pieces that use sustainable, thoughtfully selected materials, reduce plastic waste, and also give back! Founded on the principle that every item they sell should come with a positive impact, their unique organic cotton clothing is not only better for the planet, but shows that apparel CAN and SHOULD be done ethically and with full supply-chain transparency.

Founded in 2015 by two young scientists, Happy Earth started shortly after one co-founder had graduated from a Master’s program in Biomedical Sciences, while the other founder was in the midst of her Ph.D. program in Molecular Biology and Regenerative Medicine. So how did they pivot from science to ethical business? Driven by the lack of environmental awareness, even among the scientific community, Happy Earth founders were determined to increase education around eco-issues, and make environmental activism more accessible. And so, they founded Happy Earth – advocating for science and the planet, through unique ethical clothing.

From there, they transformed Happy Earth into a powerful 1% for the Planet company, ensuring that every single item purchased creates a positive environmental change. Happy Earth – everything that they do, prioritizes the health of the planet.

Why We Like Them

From materials to manufacturing and beyond, Happy Earth clothing meets and exceeds the mark for exceptional ethical products. And it all starts with their fabrics – focusing on certified organic cotton for their tees, grown with significantly fewer toxins, water, and energy than conventional cotton. Not only is this material extremely soft and breathable, but the way the cotton is grown promotes soil health and quality. For their thick woven blankets, they turn to recycled textiles – keeping fabrics out of our landfills, and giving old textiles a new and beautiful life.

But materials aren’t the only thing that sets Happy Earth apart. Every purchase directly supports environmental missions as well! From planting trees to preventing GHG emissions, or removing trash from natural areas, 1% of all sales are donated to different world-changing environmental causes through 1% for the Planet.

Another huge initiative of Happy Earth is ethical manufacturing. In that spirit, they are one of the 323 businesses certified by the World Fair Trade Organization, which guarantees they’re putting people before profit. They have a close relationship with everyone in their supply chain and ensure safe and fair labor and wages.

But they didn’t stop there. Happy Earth is also a carbon-neutral company through Carbonfund.org, offsetting carbon emissions by planting trees. With their platform, they hope to improve scientific literacy, share environmental news and action items, and encourage sustainable living that leads to a better planet for us all. Because they believe it’s your planet and your choice.
