Healthy Baby, Happy Parents

Who They Are

A conscious and sustainable business that truly gives more than it takes–that’s what Ecopiggy is all about! Founder and mama, Hayley Mete, recognizes that the choices we make affect the world we create. Hayley has dedicated her life to making sure families have safe and eco-friendly options when it comes to what they bring into their homes. As a natural entrepreneur, Hayley previously ran a yoga clothing company, an organic baby clothing company, and in 2007 after realizing she wanted to achieve the maximum impact in making the world a healthier place, Ecopiggy was born.

Since January 2008, Ecopiggy has focused on providing truly sustainable baby products to moms everywhere. From their signature pacifier made from natural rubber to amber necklaces that are sustainably tapped from Baltic trees, the Ecopiggy team is dedicated to finding healthy solutions for your family of little piggies.

Why We Like Them

Based in Ashland, Oregon, Ecopiggy is as authentic as they come. The team (mostly mamas themselves) stand behind the materials and ingredients that go into their products to ensure they are safe for your little ones. They spend time researching best practices and put in the work to find brands that have your little one’s health and safety in mind, while also making the planet a better place in the process. A win-win for everyone.

Ecopiggy ensures that your baby is exposed only to BPA-free, toxin-free nurturing with their natural rubber pacifiers and teething rings. An eco-friendly alternative to plastic, rubber can be sourced from the rubber tree year after year for up to 25 years, until the tree stops producing sap! Ecopiggy also takes into account the traveling footprint of production, so they manufacture their rubber products at the source in Malaysia to cut down on the distance they have to travel.

They work with other eco-friendly brands as well, including Rhoost and EarthPaint, to make it easier for parents to shop and care for their family’s sustainably. Rhoost uses natural bamboo for their baby care products, and EarthPaint makes it safe and easy to have fun with their gentle, organic face paints!

Ecopiggy’s collections are inclusive of various parent lifestyles, and their products can grow with your family. From their pacifiers, which offer both rounded and ortho nipples, to their non-toxic face paint, you can trust that this brand will support your family’s lifestyle at all ages.

This brand is created, owned, and run by a mom (or several moms). Celebrating mom-owned companies is necessary given the incredible efforts moms make acting on the source of their motivation and values through parenthood and entrepreneurial creation.

This brand is owned by a majority of women. This includes everything from a small one-woman shop to a larger company where more than 51% of women make up the ownership team.

Natural rubber is harvested by tapping the Havea tree and collecting the sap. Sustainably harvested rubber comes from forests that are carefully managed to avoid over-tapping, ensuring healthy rubber trees for the future. Some sustainable rubber tree management prohibits clear cutting to plant rubber plantations, and ensures the livelihoods of native peoples and local workers.

Parabens are synthetic chemical preservatives, commonly used in beauty products like shampoo, lotion, and deodorants. Parabens can accumulate in your body, and have been linked to hormonal disruption and reproductive problems. In studies of breast cancer patients, parabens have been found in the tissue of cancerous tumors–yikes! If you want to avoid Parabens in your beauty products, keep an eye out for methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben, and ethylparaben in the ingredients list.

Phthalates are found in toys, electronics, personal care products, plastic wraps, containers, and more. These petroleum based chemicals help soften plastics, and bind fragrances to perfumes, deodorants, creams, and other personal care products. Phthalates are are not chemically bound, meaning they can easily get released into the air, water, or your body, just by using the products as intended. Phthalates have been found to disrupt the endocrine system, which can cause reproductive damage, hormonal imbalances, infertility, mood changes, metabolism changes, and more.

This product helps promote a more sustainable lifestyle. Whether it encourages re-use and the movement away from disposable products, or it promotes sustainable actions like recycling and composting, this product can help you lower your environmental footprint.

Products that are labeled as BPA free do not contain Bisphenol A, a chemical commonly found in plastic products. Studies on BPA exposure have shown that high levels of BPA could lead to hormone disruption, effects on behavior and brain function, reproductive problems, breast cancer, heart disease, infertility, and more.

As a member of the grass family, bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants on earth. It requires no irrigation, pesticides or fertilizers to grow, and can be harvested within 3-5 years, as compared to approximately 30+ years for traditional hardwoods. Bamboo is extremely adaptable and produces more oxygen per acre than large tree species, while using a fraction of the water to grow. Its durable and lightweight qualities make bamboo a great alternative for hard wood products!
